Myst

MutieChameleon

First time out of the vault
Has anyone here played the game/s? I may be biased when saying it was great, since this was the first game I bought. A lot seems to be dependant on graphics and this isn't the type of community to gawk at "purdy" pictures. Still I think it's a type of game that depends on the imagery to create the atmosphere, also using ambience music to do so. The games are about ambience. They don't cause you to ask for a refund in disgust, even if you are an elitist critic. The reviews are great (just in case you listen to those things). Anyway, I was just making this brief post because I found this (yes, ancient I know) only mention of the game, and it was negative.

Games I've really disliked or hated (Mostly because they betrayed their series, or just because they let me down) (in order of dispreference):... 5. Myst. It didn't piss me off like number 1 and 2, but it wasn't a good game.
So, if anyone has played Myst, what are your opinions? If you haven't, what have you heard? Would you ever play a game that depends largely on its visual appearance?

I loved it when it first came out, but it certainly had a lot of kinks to work out. I mean that musical piano notes to access the S. Age was just rediculous. I liked Riven even better, though I wouldn't have ever beaten that game if it hand't come with the strategy guide. Exile was alright, though it was definitely a step down from Riven (even if the puzzles were solveable). Uru really was terrible, but what can I say, I've developed franchise loyalty by now. Of course, I haven't managed to buy Revelations yet. I did play the demo and it looked promising, as short as it was.

Yep, the Selenetic age was pretty difficult to get to. I was really dissapointed with Channelwood age though, there just wasn't enough. Riven was probably the best so far, I never used a walkthrough or such so it took me a while, it was mostly just the glass under the telescope thing and the thing in the gold dome though. Musically I have to say Exile takes the cake. Oh, and let's forget Uru.

Did anyone see them in stores back when they came out? I only really liked The Book of Ti'ana. Maybe a second place for The Book of D'ni.

Has anyone heard of the fifth game in the series?
