New here and have some Fallout 2 questions.

First time out of the vault
Hi my name is Eddy and I'm new in here! I've installed Fallout 2 a few days ago (great game!) but I have some questions (noob questions maybe...).
1. Using the healing powder lowers perception temporarily, but how much time is that? a few days? a week?

2. What are other healing sources except the shaman's and the powders? the doctor skill can be used on self, right?

3. After what period of time does poison clears of my body?

4. How to remove radiation of my body and does a low level of radiation can go away by itself?

5. If I sleep or travel when I'm wounded, does my HP refills?

1. A few hours

2. The doctor skill will only fix injured limbs and the like, there is the first-aid skill which will restore hitpoints. You'll find other healing sources throughout your travels as well.

3. That's variable and depends on checks, generally a day or so.

4. Use RadAway, doesn't go away by itself but low radiation levels aren't hazardous.

5. Yes.

Where can I buy/get RadAway?
At stores.
Yeesh, just play the game. It's very big, you'll encounter it soon enough.

and how to know my current radiation level?
Get a Geiger Counter.
And before you ask: just play the game, you'll find Geiger Counters.

thnks for the reply...
I am just not used and maybe even afraid to explore large scale games...
I'm doing now the quests at Klamath to gain XP and some money (and the .10 pistol from the rats quest XD).

btw, can you explain about thievery in the game? and what is considered as a theft (taking vic's radio?)

Taking things from shelves is generally ('though not always) ignored and not seen as theft. Using the steal skill on people is, obviously, theft.

Thank you.
an other question:
do enemies respawn in the different caves etc?
or only the random encounters?

No, they don't.

Enemies don't respawn in random encounters either, you just get *new* random encounters.

Little late to the party here, but I believe doctor skill also heals hitpoint damage as well as crippled limbs, not just the latter.

2. Doctor skill also restores HPs. Other things for healing- fruit and stimpacs.

3. Poison will disapear based on your endurance- lower EN=longer time

4. Radiation can be healed with Rad away, or you can visit Painless doctor Jaxon in Redding. Doctor is much cheaper- for 200$ you will get compleate healing of your party and radiation removal (100$+100$). If you are citizen doctor Troy in Vault city will do that for free. Also, forget about gaiger counter, it is useless, just heal radiation when you have red RADIATED warning on your screen (when in city). It won't heal itself.

5. Natural healing is based on endurance and passed time. So if you travel it is OK, HPs will refill.

PS: For you more expirienced- anyone managed to be member of more than two New Reno families at the same time? I would like to know how (in official patch version).

Thank you for the support people!

last question:
what is the pipe rifle? is it a shotgun that uses shotgun shells as ammo or what?

Its pretty much a home made rifle that fires 10mm ammo. It fires a single shot, then you need to reload.

I shall add that yes, for certain, Doctor heals hit points. More than First Aid, even. But it's good to train both skills (use the books to train First Aid even if you have to pay for the books) since you can heal yourself more in a given time with them. You may think you can just rest but there are places and times where you cannot rest and a (very) few timed quests where you should not rest.

If you have the 10mm pistol the pipe rifle is good to scavange one bullet from and then sell. It has no better damage and even though the barrel is much longer, the lack of rifling means the range is only the same as the pistol. There are only a couple times in the game where you will ever need to use this gun. (Namely clearing rats from trapper town and fighting the robot and geckos in the Klamath maps, but those can be put off until you have the pistol, and, idealy for the latter, have learned how to skin Geckos, which can be learned from a particular trapper).

Skinning Geckos perk is granted after rescuing Smiley, right?
btw, the Stimpak thing heals and restores HP, right? it isn't a drug or something that has penalties?

can you give me some tips about how to kill the Golden Geckos in the toxic caves? I have the .10 mil pistol but I still hate them (Golden Geckos) because they die after about 7 shots and I don't want to spare to much ammo on those critters...

Yes, it is.

Right for both.

Get Sulik and two pairs of rubber boots and level up a bit, that oughta work.

Now, seriously, you really should be playing the game rather than coming here and asking around every time you get stuck. It'll take you longer but the pleasure of discovering every little detail in the Fallout world by yourself makes up for it. If it takes you two weeks, so be it. If it takes you a whole month, even better. The longer (and more) you play it, the better it gets.

you are right, I also think that I'm asking to much...
I didn't understand the answer about the stimpak:
"Right for both" you say... you mean that it is a drug?

and last question (seriously now...)
Rad X and RadAway are the same things?

lol No I'm not
I'm just not used to this kind of gaming...
from now on I will play and explore the Wasteland without fear!

Angrim, thanks for the site.

off to explore and play!

thank you ppl for encouraging me to play without fear!
