New Oblivion Screenies

Just so you know, there's a new batch of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Screenies out.

They look like they'd eat up my computer.

Also, from that screenies it seems that gameplay-wise barely anything has changed. TESIII with shinier graphics, I guess.

Very, very shiny, that is.

Aye pretty photos but if Morrowind is anything to go by, it's going to be "oohhhh pretty" for about 30 minutes and then "oohhhh boring." Sadly, the photo of the woman talking alludes to my thoughts about the game.

"All fluff and no fiber! That's what I say!"

Bethesda has been great at making beautiful open ended worlds but making them interesting with an addicting story? That seems outta their league.

Is there even a graphics card out now that would be capable or displaying those graphics at a playable framerate?

I would've said that I hope you enjoy it, but since I see that you're a Watchmen fan I have no doubt that you will :D

Edit: Holy shit, is that you CCR? When did you change your username?

Hopefully I will build a new gaming computer not too long before Oblivion comes out (at least if I have the money to waste). Other than that, we have to see how well Bethesda can pull through on the technical side.

So, what interesting langauge is that website in anyway?

Aside from gushing over how nice the architecture looks, here are my various comments.

Doesn't the body on this minotaur look rather poor? The head seems fine, though oversized, but the body is a different story. Placeholder mayhaps?

Not like this question is answered well in most games, but what holds these fellows together? There are no straps, everything just fits into place. I guess the standard non-committal answer would be "magic."

I can just imagine someone trying to fit themselves into pants that tight. Also, I don't know, but that doesn't look like an appropriate expression when aiming an arrow at someone's eye.

Here's one, why does every possible object and person look like they are glowing? This isn't ES:PA, is it?

Take this pick of a skeleton.

I see a lamp behind it, therefore the face should be dark. As it is, its like a seraphim. A scary looking searphim, but one none the less. I really could have made those comments about any of the pics, whats the deal?

There appears to be another lamp above the player and the skeleton (look at the floor).

Remember, though, that most screenshots of games are re-touched to make them look better. A lot better.

It's a "Bloom" effect. Ever play Deus Ex 2 or Thief 3?

The screenshots look promising, but like CCR I'm wondering whether I can actually run it. Btw, does anybody know in which province of Tamriel this is supposed to take place?

  • From now on this game is called TESIV: The revenge of the sucky combat system

Thief 3, yes, IW, no. Hmm... I don't remember anything that pronounced, though. I remember reading about the "bloom" effect at some website, and how it was all the rage. I think it looks a little overdone from these screenshots.

Oh yeah, that ape thing is ugly. Not because its a monster, it just looks like something out of DOS, anyone agree?

I think my $485 Geforce 6800 Ultra might be able to handle that, and hopefully by the time it comes out I will have replaced my aging AMD XP 1800+

To think that 7 or 8 years ago this is what would be used as pre-rendered computer animation in TV and movies:

Wouldn't a better question be: "How are they able to get up and punch you in the fucking face?"
Yeah, magic probably.

Last year-ish. I'm really looking forward to it actually; I've recently had something of an obsession with 17th Century England, as the most recent addition to my DVD collection, Winstanley, certainly testifies. The fact that it is also Post-Apoc and Retrofutue just sweetens the deal.

Anyway, what are you doing reading Graphic Novels at Harvard? I thought you guys where to busy playing Settlers of Catan?

Anywhoo, have you read 300? I had an uncle who went to Harvard, has an obsession with Thermopalye, thinking of getting it for him.

Well, fortunately or unfortunately, I'm not enrolled at Harvard, I just get to take classes there (and get a degree, eventually) because I work for them. If I wasn't such a lazy bastard it would be a pretty sweet deal.

No, haven't heard of it. Is it a graphic novel?

Sounds pretty sweet.

Yup. Frank Miller.

LOUSY DEUS EX 2!

Well I think I will give Bethsoft a chance here. I have played all the old Elderscrolls games and ejoyed most of them. So I could not say anything bad about em.
