New Xbox360?

Duckman

Sonny, I Watched the Vault Bein' Built!
Yeah,s hoot me for posting anything about the 360, but word is that a "limited edition" 360 is on it's way, with a 120gb HDD and HDMI connection.

Is it really worth it?

LINK

* The Elite will be limited quantities only; that may be as much or as little as a couple hundred thousand.
* The case, controller, and Live headset will all be black. It will have all new packaging.
* Elite will cost $479, and will be a 3rd SKU; it will be sold alongside Premium and Core packs.
* Eventually Elite hardware (in white plastics) will take the role of the Xbox Premium. That is to say, after the Elite is launched and sold out, future Xbox Premiums will have 120GB / HDMI.
* We do not yet know exactly when 120GB / HDMI will become the standard for Premium, but it is loosely estimated to be late summer or fall.
* Elite models run cooler than normal 360s, but they are not yet confirmed to have 65nm chips.
* Prices may remain the same with the 120GB / HDMI hardware upgrade in the Premium Xbox, but we may still see a price cut on the line when 65nm chips start shipping.
* The HD DVD drive will not be internal or bundled -- Microsoft never did or nor does not currently have plans to put an HD DVD drive in the 360.
* There are no current plans to integrate WiFi into the Elite or future Premiums (although that can always change).

All that money and no HD-DVD drive? Not worth it. They should have placed the HDMI connection in the first place too, they are always behind technologically.

I've been trying the PS3, it's going to be released in Europe tonight.

Not a single good game, Sony may have a better machine, but at that price and with those games?... nah, not going to be bothered with both machines for now.

The lack of good games for the Wii we have at home is becoming alarming too. The Zelda game is the most boring action/adventure game ever.

I'm in a bad mood concerning consoles, aren't I ? :?

My friend has an XBox360 and the thing is almost as loud as a vacuum cleaner. I'd hate to hear what the version with even higher cooling requirements sounds like.

It ain't easy to get a PS3....

PS3 was released last night here in Australia, the same time as Europe. They actually didn't sell as many as they had planned, I guess when the price is AU$999.95, it would turn anyone away from a gaming system that really has nothing running for it.

Oh yeah. News reports and article suggest the PS3 launch in Sydney, if not all of Australia, was a very big let down for businesses. A local store was open until 1am, and sold no less than 9 PS3's. Was it really worth it for them though, to stay open so late?

I own a Premium and I see no reason to 'upgrade' to this new one. I haven't been running out of HDD space or anything, and where my 360 is positioned I barely hear its jet engine fans. (the new one is supposed to be quieter, because the loudest part of the 360 is the dvd drive)

I have that Intercooler thing, which does make it twice as loud, but it has yet to freeze due to overheating, even on our 40 degrees celcius days :D

Although, admittedly I am on my 2nd Xbox360...

To throw my hat into the ring, the 120 gig HDD will only be needed if/when more DLC the size of Shivering Isles are released. The HDMI? Only nitpicky rich snobs need it. Hell, I don't even have Hi Def, and I'm suited just fine with my setup.

Heh, HDMI, for me, is relatively useless. I have no use for it, and the 120gb HDD? I haven't even used more than 1gb of storage seeing when I use music on games etc, I use my Ipod.

Ok, I will admit, though, that a completely black Xbox 360 is pretty sexy tech, tho. It's almost as if they had it in mind from the start. If they will sell black controllers and/or headsets seperately, I'll get one of each.

Gears of war is an awesome game though. I'm looking forward to army of two, bioshock and assassin's creed (which they're now also making for the 360). The PS3 is crap. I've never liked the playstation games, and the controller is an ergonomic disaster. I don't get why people, both in the console and computer world, buy the thing with the most juice, when you can't do anything with it. I don't get the point of having an HDMI slot, when there's already a fully functional component slot. The difference really isn't worth the extra cost, not to mention the whole bigger HDD thing. Unless you pirate games there's no point in having a 120 GB drive over a 20 GB drive.

I don't see how the PS3 controller is an ergonomic disaster, although I do prefer the 360 one. You just sound like a fanboy with those kinds of comments...

And you can't 'pirate' anything using the 360 hard drives.

that said, it is true that at least with this generation the PS3 will either be a clear "loser" or the 360 and PS3 will be about even, success-wise. There will be lost exclusives on both consoles, just because of hte rising development costs. Good things for either PS3 or 360 owners.

No really, it's an unnatural thumb twist.

Not with the 360 drives, no, but you could with an equivalent sized drive.
