Ohh Vista SP1 Issues

Maphusio

Sonny, I Watched the Vault Bein' Built!
Yep, I've encountered my first real Vista Issue... Networking seems to be, broken, I can't release and renew from the command window... I can't see other computers on the network. I found someone else had the exact same issue. I even find many other forums where people convey similar problems in a slightly less technical format.

I've pasted below my issue.... any thoughts? (Oh and dear god I don't want to hear the "Vista sucks" bullshit. Lets think constructively eh?)

In the last week I've had some serious trouble with Vista. I'm getting event id 7031 & 7034 error messages with at least 10 services I've counted so far that unexpectedly terminate. I applied SP1 Release Candidate v.668 to see if it would alleviate any of these problems, but it hasn't. Some of the visible symptoms:

Network and Sharing Center: No devices shown only Unknown / No such interface supported
System Control Panel: Under System Section, Rating is unavailable (there is no option to rate my system anymore), processor and Memory are "Not Available"

Services that crash:
SSDP Discovery
Host Process for Windows Services
Windows Time Service
Secure Socket Tunneling Protocol Service
Network Store Interface Service
Workstation
Function Discovery Resource Publication Service
COM+ Event System Service
Network List Service
UPnP Device Host Service
WebClient Service
SL UI Notification Service
Terminal Service
WinHTTP Web Proxy Auto-Discovery Service

Event ID 1048: LSM, unknown error, "No such interface supported"

Network Diagnose and repair doesn't fix anything either.
Ran sfc /scannow and nothing was fixed.

It is almost as if permissions or security isn't right or working. Sort of like when you run a service as a user but have a bad password. I feel like whatever is wrong lies with Vista security-- never have I seen a problem like this with Windows 2000, XP or 2003. Any ideas?

Jesus, my Laptop has Vista Basic and it has the same fucking issue. It likes to work only after Vista has been online for atleast 4 hours at a time, or when someone else on the network is using the modem. Though, my connection is wireless so the errors do not mark themselves as network and IP errors, and more that the "Modem is not there". Vista has the most retarded security software I have encountered in a Microsoft product.

i believe you have to set it up as a local intranet for it to work, you cant just set it up as seeing each other on a the network.

Yes yes, I know. I have already been through this with a friend of mine. I'm willing to stick to Vista, it ain't all that bad really...

Just messing you bro ;)

If you consider it tolerable, then it's your choice.

Just a tad off topic, where can you get Vista SP1? I need it baaaaad!

You might want to hold off but... You should receive it as part of Windows Update as I did.

Note: I am running Ultimate 64, things may be different for me.

Someone suggested that I uninstall the network driver then re-install it... So simplistic, it just might work. I'll give that a try.

TheWesDude. I'm not sure what your trying to say?

Yeah, I know :P But I can tolerate it, and hope to hell it gets better in future SP's. Oh please God make it better!

Hmm, OK then. I haven't had an automatic update for a week or so now, but I'll keep an eye out. Thanks.

you have to set it up as a local intranet.

Do I need to set anything in Internet Explorer to have intranet security?

Not usually. When you first install Internet Explorer, it will check to see if you are on an intranet and set address checking appropriately. Your network administrator can also control whether Internet Explorer uses the intranet security zone settings. If Internet Explorer recognizes that you are on an intranet, you do not need to do anything else. If it does not recognize that you're on an intranet, follow these steps to to tell Internet Explorer that you are on one:

To tell Internet Explorer that you are on an intranet

In Internet Explorer, click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.
Click the Security tab, and then click Local intranet.
Click the Sites button.
In the Local intranet dialog box, clear the Automatically detect intranet network check box, if it is selected.
Select all other check boxes, and then click OK twice.
Why do I get an Information bar notice about the intranet?

If you are connected to an intranet but receive an Information bar notice that an intranet address has been detected, it means that Internet Explorer did not automatically detect your intranet. To tell Internet Explorer that you are on an intranet, follow the steps in the section above.

How do I connect to my company's intranet?

To learn how to connect to your company's intranet, you'll need to talk to your network administrator or search for "network" in Windows Help and Support Center. The settings discussed above control how Internet Explorer works with intranet addresses, but those settings will not help you set up an intranet connection if one does not already exist.

and for the sites, i believe ALL computers must have the same domain/workgroup name, and for the list of sites you have to put:

192.168.1.*

and clear the check box for automatically detect intranet.

TheWesDude... I think you are confused as to what my problem is. Let me clear that up for you...

Well so more fun with SP1. I attempted to remove the network drivers and install them again... Jokes on me, as far as vista is concerned. The uninstall feature is a placebo effect... I uninstalled both NIC cards and was still on-line even after a reboot....

You play Freelancer!! :) Good on ya, bro.

Sorry .... off topic

hah I only wish there were a sequel as well done as that. EVE I think is as close as it gets... and I only hear this from folk, I have not played. Xfactor was OK, but not great.

Well back on topic, I'm uninstalling SP1... *crosses fingers*

I demand to know what you're hiding in that folder!

What is it?

Russian nuclear missile codes?

Nazi Gold?

Pictures of your secret life as a hobo/transvestite/secret agent?

SPILL THE BEANS!

That's his user name, unless he assigns random folders that icon.

Penny for the smart -not lady. Although, I'm sure somewhere deep down in that folder is some interesting information... It's the sum of all of "My documents" over the past 7 years or so.

To echo Josan12:

You play Freelancer!

Damn fun game.

Hope you get your problems in Vista worked out.
