One, Two, or more weapons?

Look, Ma! Two Heads!
You have two item slots. You can put anything in them, including weapons. I have all my planned character carrying two weapons, putting one in each slot for when I'm entering areas such as the military base, the lower levels of the cathedral, the deathclaw hatchery outside the Gun Runner's base, and other areas heavily populated with enemies. On my last playthrough, I had a small guns character with the fast shot and gifted traits. I used the Gauss Pistol and the H & K G11E. Then I read online that the .223 Pistol penetrates heavy armor better than what I was using and that the only other gun in the small guns category that does this as well is the Needler Pistol. So I'm thinking that I need to include at least one weapon for my characters to ignore a large portion of the enemies' damage threshold, such as the .223 pistol, Pulse Pistol, Pulse Rifle, etc.

How many weapons do you carry for your characters in Fallout 1 and 2?

I think this forum is not for FO related topics but I carry at least 2 weapons, one pistol to make more shots and one big gun to make crucials or bursts.

I haven't played Fallout 2 in any considerable length yet so I can't say but for my playthrough of Fallout 1 I had 400 carry weight (modded character because I'm a no good dirty cheater) and only bothered to carry three weapons after I had settled in the BOS bunker as the designated home base and stored all my gear.

A sidearm kept in the inventory: Plasma Pistol

Equipped: Super Sledge/Plasma Rifle

I never used the sidearm but it felt right to have it around when in towns where having a weapon out is frowned upon. In that case it's...

Equipped: Plasma Pistol/Unarmed

Don't know how my Fallout 2 playthrough will differ in the longrun from my Fallout 1 one. I like to differentiate my characters not only in inventory but also how they use their equipment and I roleplay Fallout 1 as a bruiser and Fallout 2 is planned as a stealthy fast hitter with 20 action points (because I'm a no good dirty cheater).

These more belong to the help-thread thanthe general discussion.

Either way, I take 2 weapons. One for long range, one for close range. Or just for the instance my arm gets crippled. Can also spare AP if in the middle of big fight, and want toskip a reload.
