I'm guessing some people here have seen the show Oz before, so what is it about, what generally happens?

Someone I know has the entire series and lately I've been bored, so I've been thinking about watching it, is it worth watching or is it crap?

Prison.

What generally happens?

People getting hurt, backstabbed, etc.

is it worth watching?

Yeah, it's pretty good.

I especially enjoy watching the many actors in it who went on to do more gritty crime dramas.

Chris Meloni, hilariously enough, makes as great a prisoner as he does a cop.

I mostly like this show. I'm not as much into the dudes doing other dudes stuff. But the shankings, drugs, murders, etc. are all great. It's a great modern prison show.

What I don't like about it is they ruined my favourite character, Beacher. He went from being a little bitch, to an awesome insane lunatic, to a little bitch that loves dudes. He was a great lunatic.

Great show over all. HBO and Showtime know good tv.

And Winston from Ghostbusters is the Warden. So it's win-win.

Is there much of the whole forced sex thing?

The first few seasons, it seemed mostly implied. There was a lot of nudity still. When they throw people in the hole, they're thrown in without clothes on or they'll whip it out to insult one of the guards. While the rapes were more implied, they were still there a bit. I'm on season four right now, and it seems to be the most so far.

But it's not up to the pornographic level. I've seen sex scenes in other hbo and showtime series that were a lot more graphic (The Tudors and Rome to name two).

Oz was a great show. Rather than ask us if you'll like it, why not watch it yourself?

With most TV and movies lately, I find it a bit better to ask people their overall opinion on it, and what it's mainly about to them.

That and to gather a bit of information on it, so I'll know whether or not it's something that'll probly be entertaining, or something that's just gonna be shitty and gonna piss me off the whole way through, then have an equally shit-filled ending.

I dont know, I've heard mixed things about the show, I may watch it, but if there's too much on the whole forced sex thing, it'll probly be something that's just gonna get on my nerves more, rather than entertain me.

I'd recommend borrowing or renting the first season, or even just the first disc if you can. The best way to see if you'd enjoy the show is to just sit through that pilot episode. And the pilot is a good representation of the entire show.

its an overrated show, I watched one episode and said fuck that, I also hate Hero's and Lost.

I pretty much hate everything on TV, except Fringe and Burn Notice, I love those shows.

You do make a valid point. Fringe > Oz.

Thread over.

Oz makes prison break looks like a kiddy show.

House isn't bad, but it's going down hill, since I don't find anything interesting about the new assistants.

Lost, I never got why anyone liked it, never watched much of Heroes so I can't say anything on it, and House is meh, some episodes have been okay, others just boring.

Wow, what a horrible way to judge a show.

Oz was one of the best HBO shows, and that's saying a lot. High production values, interesting storylines, dynamic characters and a lot of different kinds of conflict.

Dexter had an awesome first season, but went downhill fast after that. Also can't stand the sister character for some reason.

Heroes seemed awesome from the premise, but every episode was basically "Meh episode, maybe the next one will be better", except they never got any better.

House is basically the same story repeated over and over and over again every episode. Still cool, though, and the new season promises to be more interesting (House in a mental institution).

But you guys are missing actually brilliant shows.

Like Deadwood. Absolutely amazing western series.

Or Rome, pretty damned good series set in ancient Rome at the time of Julius and Augustus Caesar.

Or Hustle, every episode is like a miniature version of The Sting. Absolutely brilliant.

The Wire, great show with an ensemble cast that focuses on the environment as the constant.

And obviously, the ever great The Sopranos.

I'm not into those kind of shows, its the same reason I hate prison break.

and I never saw Deadwood, and I have yet to see The Sopranos, but since I hate The Godfather I'm not sure if I will like it.

Don't forget the best tv show ever: Carnivale. Seriously, epic battle between heaven and hell set after WWI, in the dustbowl with magic. With Clancy fucking Brown as the best villian ever.

True Blood I watched the first season of, near all of the characters became really annoying and I was somewhat hoping for a couple to get killed.

Generation Kill just constantly pissed me off near the whole way through.

The Sopranos I adore though, seen almost every episode, and own the first couple seasons.

I was hoping for something more akin to a modern day Band of Brothers. It was really disappointing.

Almost forgot. I liked the John Adams series.
