PC Gamer UK podcast talks Fallout: New Vegas

Also, in case yall forgot, the thread isn't about the podcast anymore, it's about the ass on BN's avatar.

LOL. Damn my attention to detail, but her hand and ear turn me off from the picture.

Hmm, it certainly somewhat resembles the musical instrument you speak of (the close relative of a bassoon), but I can't say the similarity is quite that striking.

Something much more important: Why nobody has scans from the actual PC Gamer from country xy?

Well, the implementation of an infinite desert depends on the engine. If the engine wasn't built to handle it, it won't. For example arcanum was built to support extremely large worlds where you could walk for hours on end.

I don't think the oblivion engine can support that, though.

I think it could. It depends on how much you want to modify the engine to support it.
Indeed. If it can deal with both Fallout 3 and Civ 4, it should be able to handle an "endless" dessert.

If you draw an imaginary line round her buttocks and her back, it resembles male genitalia.
The weird tattoo kinda sorta even gives it a whole 3D "veiny" effect.

That is one sick avatar.

Seriously.

This is starting to look like those weird /e/ threads that only weirdos read :P

In any case, I like TwinkieGorilla's avatar better.

As for the news. "One thing - in his words - Fallout 3 "friggin' nailed" was exploration."

So you can all expect combat at every 10 yards ;) Emphasis on "you".

Wasnt there a way to remove the invisible walls for Fallout3 ? No clue though how but I could swear I have read that somewhere on the Nexus once.

Even if you could, you'd fall through the map.

It wouldn't be that hard to use the GTA formula, would it? I remember in GTA: San Andreas, flying out over the ocean for about an hour and no invisible wall. But it also takes you an hour to get back. Problem with Fallout: New Vegas doing this though is probably because of where it's located (near some Fallout and Fallout 2 locations) which would just be silly if you ventured in that direction for days and found nothing (though I doubt anyone would spend the time doing that). And the fact that it's actual ground and not water would be a difficulty too.

well you could simply do it in a way that if you really spend so much time (like 10 days or so ...) flying, walking or driving in one direction you get the your character died of dehydration achievement

^  Then EVERYONE would do it, amirite?

No, as I said in another thread, they could have the "wasteland" in BETWEEN the major locations. Im not sure how many major inhabiter areas are planned, but it'd certainly be lots more atmospheric to have the player trod through the desert for a while to reach the destination, rather than going on a 3-minute scenic promenade like in FO3.

That's the old Sierra way of doing it. But dying was half the fun in those games.

I think the debate over optimal game world boarders gets much more attention from messageboard posters than it should from developers. It ranks right up there with "What should happen to a corpse?"

I've been there before. If it anything like Oblivion ( and it is since it uses the same engine ) you'll fall through the map after walking a certain distance.

When they released The Pitt for the first time and it was buggy as hell, I went out of the map and I fell through it when I was far out.

Alternatively, if the water has weight, then maybe just make it go long enough for you to carry max water bottles and die of dehydration just before you hit the edge. Dunno how often your dehydration meter hits the bottom though.

Most probably it will not be as often as one might think. Also I don't really think that the player will die from it. Guess there will be just a big stat drop or so.
