For around 10 minutes, I have no cursor and no control over the pc. The icons and start menu take a long time to come on,

Any thoughts? Its got 2Gb of Ram, amd athlon processor and not a lot on the hard drive etc...

I'm in a very busy year and can't afford my pc to fall apart!

Thanks

sounds like a few issues:

1) need to defrag
2) virus/trojan
3) service thats not working properly
4) program that loads into ram not working properly

i would look at your msconfig and see what that says for whats loading, and try disabling some of the services you do not need.

Nice background, but anyway, I'd agree with that guy. It's probably debugging time or you picked up some nasty shit off the Internet by accident.

I defrag regularly and its fine at the moment.

Don't think its a virus as I'm up to date and have scanned several times.

When the pc is "active" for use its absolutely fine.

I have already stopped a lot of things loading... butmaybe there is something I;ve forgotten. Any thoughts on what else I can stop without causing further problems?

We can't very well advise you if all you're saying is "there's some processes running". We need specifics.

if the standard stuff doesnt work, then its a hugely involved problem, or you have a virus/trojan.

either way, you need to start posting screenies of stuff or output logs.

Some more specific stuff would be good. Could be anything from that Screenshot.

Yeah, no problem. Just thought I'd take a shot first and see if anyone had seen this already, which would have saved time.

MSConfig, Services, [X]Hide all Microsoft services, Disable all.

It did. Computer loads fine when everything is disabled. Things like internet / sound / themes etc don't work so it looks like I'll have to try several at once and isolate which one is causing it.

Thanks guys.
