People are stupid

This day has been really depressing for me, as a believer in the capabliity of people to think intelligently.
Imagine: I, a socialist libertarian, am now forced with the conclusion that Ann fucking Coulter, the Republican controversial writer/demagogue, made the most intelligent appearance of ALL people I've seen/read this day.

Here are some of the lows:
Het Lagerhuis, a TV-show in the Netherlands featuring debates between "normal" people, politicans and others. The debates were really annoying. "Yes." "No" "Yes" "No" "Yes" "No" "Yes" "No". Or stuff like "[..]I say again: I do not oppose protests, I encourage them, it's just that the upcoming protest in Amsterdam will have no effect just because it will happen AFTER the decisions and votes in parliament will be made" and then people reacting to that with: "You're very arrogant for someone who's supposed to represent the people, you just said that protesting is stupid." "No, I didn't, I said that this protest will have no effect on the decisions made." "You're arrogant because you ssay you politicians won't listen to protests" "No, I don't[..]" "You're arrogant, you're saying that we're not allowed to protest" and that went on for about five mintues until the debate was closed.
Another debate there was about the spreading of immigrants by building more expensive houses in neighborhoods with poor immigrants (to promote better integration). This had the enlightening dialogue of:
"Doing this DOES have effect" "No." "Research has" "No." "Research" "No." "Research has shown that" "No."
Note that the person constantly saying "No." was a professional fucking politician.

Next, a show about the elections in the USA (A Dutch show, with Ann Coulter, the president of the Young Republicans and the president of the Young Democrats). This is still on now, and is really nice. Really. You have women touting pink panties saying "give Bush the pink slip" and "Our message is peace" (Gosh, how original). We had women wearing idiotic suits with rocket shaped dildo's saying stuff like "My dildo needs oil". I saw a little clip of reactions to one of Ann Coulter's (reasonably intelligent) speeches, and those went "This is Mein Kampf, I think Ann Coulter has positions that look like Hitler's", "She's an idiot" and more such intelligent reactions. And Ann Coulter reacted to that, and almost rightfully so, by saying "That's the level of Democrats today: they don't get farther than "you're Hitler" or "you're an idiot"". (She then added some more intelligent reactions, but made one dumber remark when faced with research showing that 9% of the Dutch want Bush, by saying "I haven't seen the media there, but I suspect it's the fault of the media". )
Most other clips showed more stupidity or the same old same old "Bush did it for oil" "Iraq went bad" "Bush is an idiot" etc etc.
Currently, there's a huge and dumb shouting match between the president of the Young Republicans and the Young Democrats.

This is depressing...

Anne Colter's more intellegent then she's given credit for. Not even I will support everything she says, and sometimes she comes off....lacking balance..but damn, that's just embaricing on the part of the Dems. Wish I could watch it.

Funny, but when I think of Ann Coutler I think of her, a bit thinner, in black boots, black tight leather, and a whip.

Otherwise, I can't see the point in taking her seriously.

Welsh, she sells Republican smut, you know that and so does she. I bet she does'nt fully belive most of what she writes.

According to what I just heard, she is propagandized as selling Republican smut, but actually takes a more moderate and balanced view in the actual texts of her books. I wouldn't know, though, since I haven't read them. I can only say that I believe she's an intelligent woman, and one who can possibly debate properly and not just shout. *shrugs*

Yes, her use of facts has often stumped many a debator. She does not bow to the emotional pissing contests that many debates become and even if she is wrong, the opposition is usually too flakey to present a cohesive argument.

Her books do indeed take a more moderate tone. I dont really agree with her alot, but I am able to appreciate her view, which is a rare thing in politics, as I hate most everyone associated with them.

So a show meant to bridge the gap between voters and politicians featured a politician constantly saying no to someone trying to state facts?!

The factual person should be the politician...the politician should be mopping floors.

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

Well, a certain Nathan Zohner conducted award-wining research that found that 86 percent of the population supports the ban on dihydrogen monoxide.

It was even brought up for potential banning in parts of California.

Why not? If you come in contact with it's solid form, you can die. If you inhale it in any quantity at room temperature, you die.

Plus, let's not forget that it is solely responsible for the rise of the oceans. 8)

Back on topic. I like Ann. She can spout some pretty intense stuff on her website and on TV, but she backs it all with facts, something that many folks avoid like the plague.

Plus, she's kinda hot.

Apparently you haven't actually pursued her references in Slander or Treason. They are very thin, if exist at all. The main reason people shy away from Ann and her references is because most of them are buillshit.
