Planetscape Torment-after minutes of gameplay computer resta

Camanda

First time out of the vault
I am using Windows xp. I am trying to get Torment to run properly but after a few minutes or so of playing my computer shuts down completely and reboots and I get the windows has recovered from a serious error message. Whats going on?

...
I'd say 'read the stickies' but this isn't G&T. We need more info than this. Lots and lots more info than this. Computer specs, directx version, patches and whatnot.
Plus, you'll probably be better off at a Planescape board.

Have you tried calling Interplay tech support? (r00fles)

Try running the game in compatibility mode for Win95. It probably won't help, but it's worth a shot.

It actually sounds like a hardware issue. Maybe a problem with one of the game's discs? Try copying the troublesome disc to the hard drive and then mount it with Daemon Tools.

EDIT: And yeah, what Sander said. More information, please.

Mounting it with Daemon Tools is too much trouble, just edit the ini then to point to the proper points.

My guess would be that it's hot, and that your PC is overheating.

But I need a shitload more info.

Maybe we should start adding stickies here as well, so I can say 'Go read the stickies'.

Then he would be having the same problem in other games, not to mention daily use. Then again, we won't know until he gives us some actual info.

Goddamnit, I need that sticky. :P

But it's a realistic problem, I've had it happen and I've seen it happen a lot. If Camanda doesn't play any other games then he wouldn't notice.

Yeah, I had it too - until about three or four days ago, in fact. It was caused when GPU overheated, usually resulting in a system restart after five to thirty minutes of gameplay. Turns out there was dust (*lots* of dust) in the heatsink. Quite embarrassing.

Seeing as PS:T doesn't use 3D acceleration, my guess is it is CPU, RAM or northbridge that are overheating in Camanda's case (if this is indeed a heat issue). Camanda, post your motherboard (and other specs, for that matter) so we can see if it has any temperature sensors.
