Player Instant Death Criticals

First time out of the vault
Has anyone ever had their character inflicted with an "instant death" critical?

No, not criticals that involve your character taking like +500 damage from a minigun, but criticals that can have your character die without having his HPs at or below 0 and produces a special message.

Please don't write in color, since, as you can see, it can be very irritating.

That said, could you please further explain the concept of those instant-death criticals that don't display the damage that has been inflicted?
As far as I'm aware of, every time you get hit, the game makes a series of rolls to see how many damage will be inflicted. If it's a critical which delivers enough damage to kill you instantly, I'd say that's an instant-death critical.
I could be wrong, of course.

I think he means the instant death criticals that are'nt based on damage, ie; "You die as you feel the rush of air onto your brain" or something similar to that.

And as an answer to the OP; No.

No instant deaths I'm aware of, but I think my record is 650+ damage. Didn't leave much by the way of a good-looking corpse, to say the least. :)

He must be talking about when you don't get out of the military base/cathedral/oil rig before it blows up

This is what I meant.

For me, usually happens when I play the Wasteland Merc II mod, when fighting the Cyborg. Just him shooting you sometimes "crushes your internal organs, all you can do is gurgle blood".

Other than that, on normal games, never happens.

Also, has anyone ever had a major critical failure with a weapon that killed themselves instantly?

In Fallout no, but in real life I once shot myself in the face and boy I can tell you it didn't end well!

It forced you into a reclusive life posting on internet message boards?

Speaking of instant death criticals, does anybody else find that they sometimes don't get experience for those?
Particularly happens with Enclave soldiers, for some reason. I'll finish a fight with (for instance) 3 of them with 1100 exp., rather than 1650. Only happens with the zero damage, instant kill criticals though.

I've never experienced my character being killed that way.

I've killed monsters and NPCs that way, most often molerats with a targeted shot to the eyes.

I've never noticed a lack of experience for instant-death kills, but, then again, I never pay too much attention to the incoming textbox messages about xp. It's quite possible for it to be happening without my noticing.

Misteryo

Critters don't have Better Criticals.

I reckoned so, but I could'nt be certain myself, though the suspicion started to grow on me after several years of playing Fallout and it never happening to me.

I noticed that bug as well when boxing in New Reno. An untargeted critical did give me experience; head and eye shots didn't.

I've had that reported, but could never replicate it. If someone could work out the details that would be nice.

Edit: I figured it out like the big figurer outer I am. As it happens, the characters in the old saves I load to test things all tend to have Living Anatomy, which adds 5 points of damage regardless of damage threshold and resistance. Hence no 0-damage hits ever. Removing the perk let me get 0-damage kill crits and the bug. Interestingly, this also explains another matter, namely why I always thought EMP Grenades do a minimum of 5 points of damage in Fo2 but not in Fo1.

Speaking of criticals, I noticed it says in the manual that your effective crit chance should go up with your weapon skill. This turns out to be incorrect. You do get a hidden 5% crit chance bonus when fighting with Unarmed or Melee Weapon though. And with LK 10 and Sniper you get crits 100% of the time, there doesn't seem to be a minimum "miss" chance.
