PLEASE GOD HELP ME

Frank Horrigan@BIS

Still Mildly Glowing
Please tell me if there is any way of fixing this. All folder maps on my PC have gone crazy. Their names have changed to things like 0▒ãr1bîÉ.<@u and they are inaccessable. It also says that they were last changed in years like 2015-2066. Please if anyone has ever encountered such a bug/virus please tell me what do, or else I don't know what I'll do.

Well, since you're at BIS, you should ask Sean Reynolds.

He knows everything.

He says so and works at Interplay, so he is right! ;)

I'd take a wild guess that your hard drive is dying. If it's an IBM i'm SURE it is. So go bye a new one, QUICK!

Pwwuuhh

Got the most of the "stuff" saved. Trying to install Windows ME did the drill. The computer wasn't actually able to install it for some unknown reason, but during the installation Windows noticed damaged files and offered to repair them. Although, all the stuff got totally disordered as Windows wasn't able to restore the original folders, so instead it created like 300 folders called DIR00001-DIR00300. So I had some hours to spent on ordering everything back to normal.

Windows ME sux! Get Xp dude, its alot more stable. Theres a reason why the stopped the ME series with Windows ME.

And back up your harddrive if you have important stuff on it, I sugges using raid 0.

Well, I used XP before, a german version which kind of censured almost every game I installed (making it impossible to finish GTA VC for example). Also making us think that it might have been it that caused those strange damages, we kinda think its unstable. Also being kind of tired of the NT-technique we decided to install Windows ME (although we would have installed 98 pro, if we just had gotten it).

People still use ME?

Whoa...

Yeah and guess what, people actually still play Fallout too :!:

Well some positives about this happening is that I got (again for unknown reason) the main files back for my Humongous Armor Project, making it actually possible to finish it, now that I've learned something about scripting. :)

The difference is that Fallout was worth the CD it was burnt onto and still is. Hell, people knew WinME was a dud before it came out.

Hype Train! Choo! Choo!

Ahhh, typical us even back than we weren't able to get useful informations in advance. Well as long as it isn't us who got a CD of WinME we are fool free here we guess. 8)
We should better get on with getting a CD of win98 pro (second edition or what the *beep* its called), as it's the operative system that we and many others liked best.

Yes, Windows 98 SE is the best Windows ever. It's quickly growing outdated, tho', like OSs tend to do

Windows XP Pro (not Home. Eeegh) or Windows 2000 is the way to go currently, methinks

XP Pro is actually better than 2000 Pro. I helped a friend re-format his computer and we threw XP Pro onto it. it installed cleanly and actually found all his hardware. I think he's still waiting for something to completely go wrong.

Well since its a microsoft program its should be due any day now.

Come on... have some faith in the Microsoft programs! They don't just randomly crap out on you... They crap out on you when you need them most, and that I have to say is either an elaborate curse or a statistical miracle!

Naa, theyre just out to F u over so youll buy more of their crap, dont take me wrong I still think microsoft has some of the best programs, I have office 2003 and Win Xp and most of the time they work fine.

I used to use Win98 until I got fed up with in and switched to Win2000. Cute thing is that by switching to NTFS I lost some small, but important elements from my hard ... like a 76 level amazon from Diablo 2! There goes a shit load of work and time down the drain... :wall:

It isn't as much fun when you are cheating, I mean buffing up your character is like 90% of the fun. The defeat of various monsters becomes boring and mundane and the bosses oftenly offered crappy artifacts. I had reached the point when all the onslaught had one purpose: level up new skill. more mana... etc.
