Problems with the Font error

MasterHan

First time out of the vault
Alright, here's my problem. You know that Couldn't find/load fonts error? Well, I opened the fallout2.cfg file and proceeded to change it to what the information in the Troubleshooting sticky said, yet the information is the same, and it still doesn't work. This is what it looks like for me:

[sound]
music_path1=C:\Program Files\BlackIsle\Fallout2\data\sound\music\
music_path2=E:\data\sound\music\

[system]
cdlock=E:\cdlock.dat
critter_dat=C:\Program Files\BlackIsle\Fallout2\critter.dat
critter_patches=C:\Program Files\BlackIsle\Fallout2\data
master_dat=C:\Program Files\BlackIsle\Fallout2\master.dat
master_patches=C:\Program Files\BlackIsle\Fallout2\data
art_cache_size=196

Anyone know what I can do to fix this?

Yes, *go.read.the.motherfucking.stickies*
Fucking hell.

Oh yea. I probably was too vague, sorry about that.

Game: Fallout 2 ver. 1.02
Size: Humongous
OS - XP
P4 1.5 ghz
Geforce 5200 FX
256 MB ram
40+ GB
Latest Version of DirectX
No Mods installed

Also, I might add that installing the large version and below doesn't cause a problem at all. Only for the humongous installation does the error ever come up. My Fallout 2 disc is also slightly scratched, would that have an effect on the installation thus causing the error?

Probably. Unless the master.dat is copied successfully you'll get that error. Try moving it over separately, if you're OS complains, it's damaged. I don't know why it'd work when it's still on the cd, though.

I tried to manually move the master.dat file into the Fallout 2 folder, and it gave me some error that there was a cyclic redundancy check, or something along those lines. I'll just buy a new Fallout 2 Disc, thanks for all the help though.

Make a image from the cd, if it possible, and install from there. I was having error on instalation some time ago so i did an image and instaled from there. Worked fine ;)

You said you plays with the 1.02 official patch. Is that the US 1.02d version ? The executable disables the CD-lock, so if you did a full installation (and reading your fallout2.cfg configuration, you should do), you won't have to insert your CD-ROM. So if that way the error is still happening, check that the registery keys are OK (Windows + R -> regedit -> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> Software -> BlackIsle Studios / Interplay (I don't remember the good one and i'm not on a computer with Fallout 2 installed), and if they are, so your master.dat on your hard disk seems to have been badly installed... CRC problems with your CD-ROM is showing that the CD is not correctly reader, and can not copy good datas...
...
What?
Please don't give advice unless you know what you're talking about.
He couldn't copy the master.dat file at all. Hence, his CD is damaged. That's all there is to it. This has nothing to do with cd-protection, and in fact, the game won't ever try to read the data from the CD if the config file does not point to the CD, which it doesn't.

The OP mentioned that it worked when he used the Large installation size and reading from the cd, although it wasn't 100% clear.

That's because the game only needs to read part of the Master.dat to start up, but it would need the entire Master.dat for a full install. Probably the Master.dat is damaged, but can still be partially accessed.

That's wath I was explaining at the end of the post.
Sorry if my english isn't as good as yours...
And your post consisted of more than that. The 'your CD is damaged' bit was just a rehash of what had already been said, only added a lot of useless crap about CD-protection and registry keys which would not help anything at all.
