There is an elite team of scientist from all over the world employed by IBM working on a quantum teleportation device. And they have had a 25% success rate at transporting photons using some way to bypass the uncerntainty principle and got it working. They did thies by using the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen effect. They figured out a way to scan part of the photon before teleporting it and scanning the rest of it at the other end. This is called entanglement.

So there we are. It will still be an incredibly long time before they even consider teleporting macroscopic objects, but at least we're halfway there.

Go to IBM's site...

Under the research section it will say something about quantum teleportation and ghoulash.

RE: Go to IBM's site...

Yeah I heard this, they did it sometime in 96 or 98 at least thats what one of the news posts on Caltech's site.

Yeah! I read that article a looooong time ago (not from IBM).

Did you know? Half Life is based in that theory/experiment.

RE: Go to IBM's site...

I think it was 2 years ago.

RE: Don't worry:

Aaahh, he's the one who is saying that APTYP and you are stupid nerds or something like that.... He has to be very intelligent to construct such complex phrases.

RE: Don't worry:

That is absolutely true and it absolutely makes sense. I've read a lot of Sci-Fi books, and a few about teleportation, and it's exactly like in the books: if it can make an exact copy of the original without disrupting it then you can teleport safely. All IBM has to do is put that into action using the einstien-whatever thingy and make a machine to do it automatically.. Although I'm sure that at least for a hundred or two hundred years after it is made it will not be perfected and safe. I wouldn't trust my life to a beta teleporting thingy (I use big words :D) that might desintegrate you, or destroy you, or whatever. That would suck.

RE: Don't worry:

Hey, if you can modify a teleporter in a way it doesn't put things back (or it teleports you to somewhere in space), you got one hell of a weapon.

RE: Don't worry:

A Inquiry: If we were to transport Sentient Beings in a teleporter device what would happen to the so called "soul" Would that be transported too? I am not religious but if we were to use this on sentient beings a lot of people would oppose it. And come on, when this thing gets to the level where it can transport Sentient beings, religion will probably still be around, its survived this long. To quote Ms. Godwinson, "And what of the immortal soul in these transactions, can this machine copy that to?"

Does it need a reciever in the other end to work?
