Question about technical possibilities of the engine

Hello all,

I have a question regarding the technological capabilities of the Fallout 3/Fallout NV/Gamebryo engine in regarding context with a Fallout mod.

The DLCs have already shown that it is possible to connect other maps to the main game, but is the following also possible?

Take for example a number of locations, rather than having them all on the same map a la Fallout 3, each has their own map; location plus some surroundings, and when you reach the edge of the location map you enter an overhead map a la Fallout 1 and 2.

Locations in one map would be sort of like the DLCs.

Is what I describe in my question possible to do by modders?

It is partly possible, yes. Check out the GTS mod.

There is a kind of new mechanic for the next GTS mod in the development, which features a real worldmap and even traveling over it from location to location, similar to the space ship traveling in Mass Effect 2.

Thank you for the response Lexx.

I was talking with Sander last week about options to include larger territories and locations without it being put all on one map.

My first idea was that if you walk to the edge of a location/region a list with potential locations you can go to of have learned of pop up, but that sort of eliminates the concept of exploration and finding a place on your own.

I am working on a little idea that involves locations far located from another.
