[Question] FO2 | Military Base Secret?

lil_ramen

First time out of the vault
Hey guys, when you're in the Military Base, and you speak to Sulik, says the following:

"Where the quaking rock dwells, follow the path you cannot see."
"The wind moves to secret places."
"Look for the vision that does not belong."
"The higher the place, the longer the face."
"Still waters don't run at all."
"A flower opens its petals to the sun. Seek that which is like the flower."
"That which is a door does not always lead to anywhere. That which is not a door does."
"Seek a reflection of yourself. The pathway will open before you."
"The grass is greener across the fence, but you must first find that fence."
"Lifting rocks will find more than slugs."

Is he giving me clues that there is a 'secret place' in the Military Base? So is there any?

This may seem dumb on my part, but...is there any place with a mirror on the wall?
"Seek a reflection of yourself. The pathway will open before you" could be referring to that.

"Lifting rocks will find more than slugs" refers to blasting the entrance, I guess.
About the rest, I have no idea.

I've checked all mirrors, no luck.

Yeah, but I can't just rely on that clue, the military is pretty big for guessing games.

EDIT: Just wondering, has anyone even found a 'secret place' in the Military Base?

Most of Sulik's lines are not location-specific. And there is no secret room in the MB.

What do you mean not location-specific?
His "Consult the spirits" lines always fit in the town/village/whatever they're on.

Like...Vault City: "This one is not the one, but it helps to be the one"...referring to Vault 13. It's not V13, but helps you reach it.

Aww. I always thought there was a secret room like the one in the underground area. (forgot the specific location/what city it was)

You're probably talking about the secret room in the Broken Hills mine. With the sleeping dude.

I know I'm late, but just wanted to clear up a few things:

"The wind moves to secret places."
That refers to the Vertibirds based at Navarro (secret place 1) and the Vertibirds flying back and forth (the wind moves) between Navarro and the Oil Rig (secret place 2). You were supposed to be able to fly out to the rig yourself, but it wasn't implemented.

"Lifting rocks will find more than slugs."
This is talking about the Deathclaw (Chicken) in Modoc that is trapped in the shack by a pile of rocks.

"Still waters don't run at all."
This one is a bit obscure. The back (underground) entrance to Navarro is concealed by a spring, but if you look closely the trickling water animation isn't playing (still waters), unlike the springs in NCR and elsewhere. Hence what Grampy Bone says.

"Seek a reflection of yourself. The pathway will open before you."
This is referring to Kaga, who was supposed to be a rival for the PC He was pissed off because he wasn't picked as the Chosen One (effectively making him the PC's reflection). He was scripted to always show up at important locations within the story (the pathway will open). He didn't make it into the game though, obviously.

"A flower opens its petals to the sun. Seek that which is like the flower."
Grampy Bone was giving you advice on weaponry. Specifically, to find the Solar Scorcher, which only works during the day while the sun is up (opens its petals to the sun).

"The grass is greener across the fence, but you must first find that fence."
Talking about the mission where you were supposed to guard Westin's Brahmin in NCR while they grazed outside of their enclosure (the fence), and find out that Deathclaws are what have been killing them. You follow the Deathclaws to Vault 13, you find the GECK. (the grass is greener)

"The higher the place, the longer the face."
General advice. The more important someone is (higher the place), the more troubled they are (longer the face), the more quests they give.

"Where the quaking rock dwells, follow the path you cannot see."
What this is referring to didn't make it into the game.

Other than that they're just general advice or mystic crap.

No, it refers to Shadow-who-walks who brings the raiders (like a wind) from the secret base.

No, it refers to finding the Wrench.

No, it refers to the gooey patches in the Arroyo hunting grounds that became stagnant and, well, gooey.

No, it refers to later in the game when you're wearing Advanced Power Armor and seek out the Navarro Commander (also wearing A.P.A. and looking just like you!) for the FOB of opening.

No, it refers to NCR, which is offering membership to other communities (thereby "opening up" like a flower).

No, it refers to the segregation in Vault City, which you have to find before you can see it.

No, this refers to Marcus, who is quite tall and also perplexed by all the goings-on in Broken Hills.

No, it refers to using thrown Rocks as your primary weapon (causing them to "quake" when they land before coming to rest - "dwelling" - on the ground) and making aimed attacks at Sulik until he gets a wounded eye, then divining your actions from his erratic wandering. It won't help much, but they wanted to underline the fact that this is a game of many possibilities.

In summation, I think they're all pretty much mystic crap.

I don't remember where that is. I got a wrench from a Ghoul Caravan random encounter. :P
