Recommend next gen-ish games?

Hi. :)

I just graduated from uni, just got a job, and I'm about t minus one and a half weeks away from owning my brand new gaming computer for the first time in like ten years and I'm so excited it's just about giving me a panic attack just thinking about it. :)

Ok, so the only games I've played that have come out in the last two generations or so are Fallout 3 and Vegas, and Skyrim. I played those all on the suck box, and plan on buying them again so I can mod them and what not. I played the new xcom on my phone and it was just ok (liked the original better even though it seems like almost the same game), but I own it too, and also civ 5 (plan on buying intersteller or whatever) and of course wasteland 2 (but I haven't been able to play it cause my comp sucks so bad).

So I'm getting a fairly decent laptop which should be able to play any modern game. I'm wondering if you all have some good advice for some fancier and flashier new games recently that I should play?

Depends on what you like. Metro 2033/2034 are good, atmospheric games, if you're into FPS games. Maybe Crysis 3 or FarCry 3/4.
GTA V when it comes to PC.
The Witcher 2, maybe.
 
I'm ok with FPS, but I don't really like just straight call of duty multiplayer or whatever -- it's gotta have a good story. It's like porn.

I've been looking at farcry 4, and it looks amazing, but I don't know about buying a game where my comp wont be able to play it on ultra (don't think it will, lenovo y50, i7, gtx860, 8g), think that might be slightly unsatisfying or something for my brand new comp.

Check out the Crysis games. There's a free demo for Crysis 1 and the developer kit for the CryEngine 3 is also free and contains a demo level to see if your computer can handle it.
The story isn't the greatest, but the games are fun and especially Crysis 1 has some really nice sandbox gameplay. And with mods it still looks absolutely fantastic. Also, the Metro games. Metro 2033 should run pretty well, maybe even the Redux version on the Metro 2034 engine.
 
Spec Ops: The Line (storytelling and deconstruction of the genre)

Witcher 2 (sheer awesome)

Metro 2033 and Last Light (great games overall)

Saint's Row IV (though III is recommended first to really appreciate it)

Splinter Cell Blacklist (if you like the SC series in general, I loved it)

Goat Simulator (goat of the year and a mandatory experience for any goat who plays games)
 
If you play Metro 2033, i recommand the vanilla version rather than the redux one.
It is far more survival horror than the other games/versions of the series, which give you too much ressources and too much light.
