Remake 'Escape from NY'

Water Chip? Been There, Done That
I know, it sounds like a bad joke but i found the news here www.scifimoviepage.com.

Remakes have a tendency to be......less than the original but sometimes they are better. I guess with this one, we'll have to wait and see but i would rather have a sequel, and i wouldn't even mind having another actor then Kurt Russel to play Snake Plisken, but not a remake.

Yeah, completely pointless. Well a sequel on the other hand could be sweet...

Just saw this on that site, about Batllestar Galactica Season 3:
Some critics have complained that the season three finale is a case of the series finally having jumped the shark. These criticisms are however unfounded. That one not merely accepts the last five minutes of Crossroads, Part 2 — the last episode on disc five of the season three box set — but is actually squirming in one’s seat out of pure excitement and exasperation (it is so long until the next season!) is a testament to the talents of the writers and the creative team behind Galactica. This is surely the best science fiction TV show of the past decade or so!

This guy had to be drunk. The season 3 is, like most critics noticed, a complete disaster. I was squirming alright, but not of excitement

Damnit check out the "upcoming" list. Logans run, death race, the day that the earth stood still? BASTARDS! ALL OF THEM!

RAPE OF THE CLASSICS! Its the downfall of civilization! THE DOWNFALL!

So sayth the profit of doom! :P

WHAT!?!

That's it, I'm nuking Hollywood.

First I learn about the live action GI Joe movie and now this!

THEY'RE RAPING MY (unconventional) CHILDHOOD!

I agree with those who said they prefer a sequel. I did read about a possible sequel a while ago (i can't remember where at the moment) but that would have been better. Of course we haven't seen the movie and it's still a while before release but you CAN speculate and remakes almost never come close to the original. Either they resemble the original to closely and you have a feeling of 'why make a remake' or they go completely in the wrong direction.

Briosa. I don't want to derail this thread to much but i saw that bit aswell. From what i've seen on the internet, they seem to have it wrong. Otoh, mostly they are spot on with their reviews. But on this one, i am inclined to disagree with them. I haven't seen the third season yet so i can't really comment on how good or bad it is.

There is a slight chance they could be decent. I'll withhold judgement until ALL HAIL THE HYPNOTOAD. Hmm what are we talking about now?

Well they have been doing mine and others for quite some time now, all in the name of attracting a new audience and make them familiar with these classics.

If you so damn much want people to know these classics, put them in the theatres instead of crappy remakes.
I get the feeling that its kind of like the game industry, Hollywood is afraid of creating complete new ideas because it might not make them money.

Haven't you noticed, for quite some time now hollywood has been producing mindless movies because its easier to do shine they provoke thought. Plus it seems like the masses are just getting dumber and dumber.

For christ sakes the reason why Neville in the omega man was a legend was because of a philisophical twist. To the audience he was the hero but he was actually the bad guy in the movie.

He was the unatural outsider killing everyone else using forbidden technology that caused the great fire. Now if you watched "I am legend" you know how badly they butchered the legend idea.

Independent films for the win!

Too bad that people who make these have a tendency of not having enough mony for... well, almost anything. Simply good acting and original ideas is not enough.

I would disagree.

Look no further than the old TV shows and movies. Sure the film might not look as good or sound may not be spectacular, but as long as the actors and the stories work well, its really all you need.

If anything look at the old black and white twilight zone shows.

For some types of stories, good actors and a good story is all you need. I've seen lots of great films that have three or four actors and the whole action happens in one room. But i don't think you can make such a great sci-fi or action film with only good actors and a good story. You need some money for at least the setting to be credible. Altough for a post apocalyptic film you can find some great settings in the real world.

If anything look at the old black and white twilight zone shows.

Those shows employed (as all films at that time) some good actors and some good writers, but let's not forget that there were also technoogical limitations of the era. Had the twilight zone been filmed in our time, i'm sure the director would've used all the new technology available to him. Old films are great in their way because they didn't have any modern technology to benefit from, so they had to use great acting and directing to better set the mood and tell the stories.

Look at a lot of the films done in the eighties. Most of the "special effects" were just props attached to wires with the wire edited out or proper use of toy models. Anything else could be done with clever directing and changing of scenes or what you have said above.

The message I am trying to convey is that graphics should be secondary. Its like a pyramid where the base is made up of good acting, scripting and story and graphics is just added on top. Its nice but defenitely not necessary.

Look no further than films on the sci-fi channel and asylum entertainment. Sure its got neato CGI but the acting is horrendous and the story telling subpar, not to mention the atrocious dialogue.

True, true.

Too bad they are all black and white hippie movies about gay cowboys eating pudding. Which is fine if you're into that sort of thing, but there should definitely be a middle ground between soulless Hollywood blockbusters and Pedro fucking Almodovar.

seems rather pointless to remake this type of movie... kinda like remaking "The Hitcher". it's simply no use...

Well, there are those, but i saw some cool independent movies (they were made in europe, or more exactly, in Eastern Europe- that is my part of Europe...). I know what you mean though, i've seen this thing in my part of the world too: if it doesn't have orphans that die of aids and cancer during a war + lesbians and Jesus those producers don't seem satisfied. 8-)

I am now very intrigued which particular movies you are talking about Blakut, lesbians and Jesus.

As for movies or media in general getting more and more stupid, well that has bene going on for a while now and most of the new audience seems to applaud it.
I wonder if there is some form of connection.
