Rugby World Cup - France 07

Sonny, I Watched the Vault Bein' Built!
Sure I know most countries play football and the all that, but the rugby world cups on right now in France. I'm not normally into sport that much but all going well we have a good chance of bringing back the cup this year.

For the record I'm from New Zealand which means I support the All Blacks and anyone playing Australia.

Anyway I stayed up last night and watched the Portugal vs All Blacks, its the first time they two sides have ever played each other, with Portugal being a the under dogs with the team all being amature players (thats right that have to work a normal job the rest of the time). Anyway they were brilliant to watch, just their passion from start to finish, never giving up and fighting all the way to the end.

Sure the final score was 108-13 to the ABs the Portuguese were so great, just watching them yell their national anthem was so great, they were just screaming it they were so proud to be there. Most other teams only mumble along to the words.

Anyway they are my new favourite other team :)

Poor choice mate. Looks like Australia will be going quite well, especially with England being punished by the underdogs. RSA might pose a threat, but All Blacks (as usual) will fail at the last moment.

The only reason you stayed up was because they were guaranteed to win, right?

Yeah, the "lobos" are indeed a passionate bunch, everyone loves them although they are bound to leave the competition with some harsh defeats, one after another.

One of them* plays at the team that I support, a local team, with a uniform entirely black :)

Unfortunately I no longer have the Premium sports channels, that are showing the World Cup, so I have to rely on the info about the games sent by my older brother in law, that played rugby on the team I showed you in the link and on amateur teams in England.

So any info on what's going on is appreciated :)

By the way the Portuguese team at Sevens isn't bad at all, we still need a generation or two until we become more competitive on 15 player Rugby.

*he's the one that scored the Portuguese try.

It will be hard to top the last WC. That was amazing. Darn Jonny Wilkinson's mighty boot.

It is kind of sad how the Kiwis keep falling just short. They are always bloody good. Maybe it is the nerves that gets them?

The Portugese did defeat New Zealand in the football though.

It's turning out to be a real minnow's World Cup so far. The Japanese gave an incredibly passionate last ten minutes against Fiji, whilst Tonga are still undefeated in their pool and will be looking for a win against a shattered England. We (Ireland) have been struggling to get into our stride, having trouble with the likes of Namibia (!) and Georgia (!), although hopefully we'll pull something out of the bag against the French on Friday night.
Speaking of national anthems, we aren't allowed to sing ours anymore thanks to the Northern Irish who are in the team. Since they are a part of Britain, they won't sing our anthem which is in Gaelic (so they don't understand it) and so we start every match with less passion and power then we used to.

There could be something on the TV 3 website, they have the coverage of it here in NZ

The great thing is that it free to air in NZ this year, normally the possers at sky buy up the rights.

Yea he was pretty good, but always injured now days, and he wasnt to good under pressure or the rest of the game, the last world cup Somoa got in his face and rateled him a bit. Dan Carter is a lot better, he cant kick just as good, but he's also a little try scoring machine as well, he's got a lot of skill for other game making play, keep your eye on him

It is actaullty really good to watch the little teams kick a bit of but, There's an NZ guy in the Japan team who went to school with my Wife and is married to one of my Sisters best friends (He's a Taranaki Man), buts he moved over to Japan for the money and the game time in 2002, apparently the resources they have is incredible, make the allblacks trainging camps look like a trailer park by the sounds of things.

Oh Yea, that was a good game when Georgia nearly beat you guys (only watched the first half

Hopefully we dont choke this year, one of the problems with NZ teams is that we have a habit of giving up two easy, unfortunately one of the habits of Australian teams is that they never give up, I mean they literally never give up, and half the time they come back and win. Just the Aussies attitude is half the reason they win so much as every damn sport they play.

Oh yea but we in New Zealand have developed a nice saying

"Gregon's a Wanker" (naa he's all right, but he's way to good)
