Rumor: Fallout: New Vegas features

worst case scenario: NV is a Fallout 3 mod with better dialogue and a more interesting storyline. but would I play it? probably not.

I'm sure there are others beside me who think:

a) It would be much better for Ob not to cannibalize VB, and

b) Ob would not want to cannibalize VB anyway, but would want to make something new.

They can't take everything from VB anyway, because the location is just not big enough. But they could use the events from the timeline and addapt to them. So: Think that VB happened, even if the game was never released and build on it.

I really love the stuff with Hoover Dam and the NCR vs. Brotherhood war, etc.

Yes, but like I wrote above.. if they just addapt to it, they - at least - can't butcher VB. I will be more happy with this than getting the chance to visit B.O.M.B.001 in ugly Fallout 3-esque graphic from some space port 2 miles outside of Vegas.

I remember it way too clearly. :( At the time I knew nothing of Bethesda, I just knew they had a great reputation for their RPGs. When I saw that teaser I was incredibly excited that a series I loved and thought dead was coming back with the teaser giving a good feeling. Boy, was I wrong...

bwahahaha! exactly the same, right here! i remember i just got back to chapel hill after being on and off tour w/ my band for much of the summer...one of the very first things i saw when i got back was news of a fallout teaser (don't remember where). watched it and went "whoa, seriously? finally something!"

and whoamygod my hopes kept dying and dying and dying the more i stuck around at the bethesda boards. and then...well...Failout 3.

I remember being concerned about the development time of Fallout: New Vegas from the get-go. Sure, they have Bethesda's dev kit or whatever, which I'm sure cuts down on development time considerably, but just over a year hardly seemed like enough time to develop a story and create new assets.

While the hoax was intriguing, I think I know why it captured so many of our imaginations. It was plausible. How else, especially given the truncated development time, could Obsidian write and develop a storyline UNLESS they were cannibalizing story from Van Buren?

I know this is just wishful thinking, but how plausible does the rest of the community think this is? There is at least partial setting overlap, or the potential for it, so why not? Or do you believe that Bethesda already had a plot readied when they contracted the project out?

I personaly think that Obsydian is in deed taking parts of VB scenario into their game. I can only hope that I`ll be able to meet Victor Presper in person. Smartest man on earth, that`s a chalange.

On what do you base your opinion? Because right now we have only unconfirmed rumors and a promise of new information about the game, nothing more.

Because as they are remnants of Black Isle - they may still want to realise their own old idea of F3, and Bethesda in their great kindness (sarcasm) gave them opportunity. Is it plausible?

I doubt they'll be using stuff directly from Van Buren. It's most likely that they'll assume that Van Buren happened and reference the events from Van Buren in NV.

I wouldn't count out Hoover Dam, either in the game itself or in DLC. But I doubt that any of the actual Van Buren story (e.g. Presper) will be used directly.

That's pretty much the only realistic one provided they only have a year. Unless, of course, it's as Ravager69 suggested and it's been in development for a while but nobody knew about it.

seeing as how the dialogue and shite storyline were on my top 5 worst things about FO3, fixing them would certainly make it playable.

different animations/graphics would be asking a lot but it's not entirely out of question. awhile ago i remember Sawyer linking to a page of models, but who knows. another thing which i'm almost certain will be tweaked is SPECIAL, skills, gun attributes, VATS, and other stats (radiation, etc). i get the impression that Sawyer is a bit OCD when it comes to stat-tweaking and his main focus is on this (though i could be wrong, i've seen tweets of his talking about working on gun stats all day). i know with the group involved there's no doubt they are going to improve on dialogue, storytelling and more importantly...a Fallout atmosphere which actually feels like Fallout, not Bethesda.

i'm not worried but i'm also not expecting a miracle.

Can anyone remind me who approached who? I mean if it was Beth's idea to let Obsidian do NV or the other way around?

Does it matter Ravager69, since its win-win situation to Beth anyway. And in a way will show, if OB can do better story and scripting using FO3 engine. Personally how KoTOR2 turned out and how NWN2 was launched left a rather low opinion about OB for me. Hope they get their break with NV and AP and for the love of GOD test their end version for bugs. Hell people complain about FO3 bugs, but NWN2 ones, drove me nuts.

I sure hope so. Fallout 3's Story sucked!

I bet it's Beth's way to try to win some of the older fans over. so they can sell a few more copies of Fallout 4.

either that or an experiment in curiosity: "Well if NMA and the Codex still bitch after we give the game back to Sawyer and MCA, then we know that nothing will ever please them."

or...y'know...that's what i think is most fun to think they're doing.

Sadly, I'm pretty sure that we don't figure into any of Beth's decisions or conversations.

Either way, as a man who's been burned too many times in the past by the promise of new fallout products, I'm very leery about this... but I want to be excited :).
