Rumour: Wasteland 2?

1. Technically, Wasteland already had a sequel. Fountain of Dreams.

Using what definition of "technically"? That it was released by the same publisher?

A couple of problems I foresee with this game are

-everybody mistaking it for a fallout 3 clone (admittedly, it is playing off of its hype to get made)

-wasteland just doesn't have the same kind of thematic hooks that Fallout does. It lacks a strong angle to come at the post apocalyptic genre from, and will therefore could seen as a weaker, more generic version of the setting than even Fallout 3.

If I were them - being the relatively small developer that they are - I'd first release Wasteland for Iphone and any other phone that can run a full version. Then, I'd remake the original and then I'd make Wasteland 2 with better budget.

I think that, given that Wasteland was made in the 80s and it shows in the ways the characters look, etc, it would be neat to make Wasteland retro-futuristic, but based on the 80s rather than the 90s. Think of a nuked version of the future from Back to the Future 2.

With Queen's "Hammer to Fall" as the intro song.

It would presumably be squad based, which would differentiate it.

I'd be happy with a better version of Fallout Tactics. It didn't gain anything by being set in the Fallout universe, but fighting in the ruined landscape was still fun.

Concede the style contest to Fallout and just make a kick-ass squad-based game. Jagged Alliance 2 didn't have much in the way of style and it was great. Throw in more RPG elements and a post-apoc setting and you might have a winner.

Yeah, but you can't just say "It's fallout, but 1980 instead of 1950"

It's gotta differenciate itself from Fallout in a big way if it doesn't want to be considered by most people to be Fallout 3's bastard stepchild.

First step would be going for the classic isometric/turn based rpg experience but it's incredibly unlikely that they'll do that considering the bards tale remake, the fact that theyll probably want to release on consoles, and that it's sort of an industry faux paux to not think that type of game is dead right now

Squad based implies a combat-heavy focus which is certainly not what I want at least.

Yup, the original Wasteland had quite a lot of combat, and you controlled a whole squad of Desert Rangers.

Personally I hope it is somewhat of a remake of the original Fallout, but with more non combat content rather than a sequel.

What, why? If they're calling it a sequel it better be a sequel (though chances are low)

As in it was started as a sequel but not published as one, I guess.

As someone else pointed out, it would cause some confusion as the original is quite old.
It would introduce new people to the world and help set up the setting for sequels.

I guess consistency doesn't matter if something is "quite old", huh?

If someone does a remake of Touch of Evil they should totally base it on the Koen Brother's The Man Who Wasn't There. I mean, Touch of Evil is old, rite, and we don't want to confuse people, RITE?!

Who says they're even calling it a sequel? We don't know anything at this point aside from them using the name "Wasteland".

You do realize you sound like Fallout 3 fans?

Yeah, but I think it's worth expecting more than that nowadays.

Well, okay, maybe not.

I could be mistaken, but when Fallout 3 was still early in development wasn't Fargo quoted as saying he had plans for inExile to do "Wasteland 2"?

I'm one of the first people to deride Fallout 3 for shying away from the gameplay of Fallout 1 and 2

But on the other hand, Wasteland 2 playing like a gold box game just seems ridiculous to me.

Well, aside from the fact that Wasteland didn't play like a GoldBox game(It was actually kind of the opposite of the Gold Box style), that's very hypocritical.
