So says Shacknews.
Pripyat will pick up where the original game left off. Players will take on the role of an agent in the Ukraine Security Service, sent into the Zone to collection information on a failed military operation.

GSC Game World is glad to announce a new project in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series – S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat (working title) for PC.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat will become a third stand-alone game in the highly-acclaimed Survival FPS S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series.
The project is slanted for release in autumn 2009.

The events of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat unfold shortly after the end of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl. Having discovered about the open path to the Zone center, the government decides to hold a large-scale military “Fairway” operation aimed to take the CNPP under control.

According to the operation’s plan, the first military group is to conduct an air scouting of the territory to map out the detailed layouts of anomalous fields location. Thereafter, making use of the maps, the main military forces are to be dispatched.

Despite thorough preparations, the operation fails. Most of the avant-garde helicopters crash. In order to collect information on reasons behind the operation failure, Ukraine’s Security Service send their agent into the Zone center. From now on everything depends on the player.

Too bad that these features are already at the OL-mod, and the story sounds much like an cheap ripoff from Priboi Story (starts off from the ending of SoC, the military sends one guy to the center of the Zone, searching for something)-

I just hope that the 100 Rads bar returns.

"GET OUT OF HERE, STALKER!"

The weird thing is, the moment I read some of the description that I thought that it was the mod mentioned here turned into an official game.

I'll pass on this one. Paid full price for Clear Sky, wasn't worth it ( unpolished, buggy, uninteresting system-hog ).

GET OUT OF HERE STALKER.
I SAID COME IN, DON'T JUST STAND THERE.
YOU CAN'T GO THERE.
GET OUT OF HERE ST-...

Cool news, though I've heard tell that the majority of the guys responsible for the original jumped ship before Clear Sky, so this one is being developed by the CS guys. Not sure if I'm too excited, but like fucking hell if I'm not going to play it.

MARKED ONE, WHAT THE HEEEEELL?

Yeh, same again. Players are stupid enough to buy it again right after release and then they will whine about a unplayable buggy mess... again.

I'm enjoying the OL mod at the moment. I bought clear sky recently because I think I'll be in the mood to play that next. Is it decently patched at this point? Any essential mods, like OL?

"My 'eenformation' might be of use to you Stalker"

I bought Clear Sky thinking it was the first in the series only playing the first level or so (a little after the swamps). My question is should I have bought the original (SoC) or stuck with Clear Sky? (Which is better/less buggy etc)

haven't played Clear Sky yet... but I can wholeheartedly recommend to play Shadows of Chernobyl.

To me, it was the way an fps SHOULD be.

Cannot say about Clear Sky though. But I think you should start playing SoC first.

' - kill Strelok'

If you dont support the developers by buying their product then there will not be another STALKER game coming out. Mods can only go so far before they have pretty much exhausted their potential. Yet if you buy the game you'll probably get another buggy mess. Oh the dilemma.

Seriously though it's great that another installment in the Stalker series is coming out. If not anything else it will provide expanded resources and material for the community to work on, thus helping to keep the series alive. The only real problem with the STALKER games has been their shitty QA. Hope GSC gets around that this time. Otherwise their sales figures will probably suffer.

No, you're right about Clear Sky being the first one. It's a prologue; Shadow of Chernobyl was released first, though. So, if you're wanting to know what happens after Clear Sky, it would be something to pick up.

Thoroughly enjoyed Shadow of Chernobyl.

Am currently enjoying Clear Sky.

Have faith that I will enjoy Call of Pripyat.

They deserve my money for creating such great titles.

Both Stalkers are closer to "fallout-feel" than anything else right now. Pity it's just a post-apoc fps and the original game story was not designed with sequels in mind. I mean, you did kill wish granter, didn't you? They should learn something from BioWare's Mass Effect. Any game that pretend to be successful should be designed with sequels in mind. It's not impossible to do it, but it often leaves a bad taste in player's mouth...

I hope they'll be wise enough to do not play a Jedi mind trick on players and do sort out technical issues this time. With a good writer, this game has a lot of potential. It they incorporate some kind of rpg elements in it [i.e. PC stats or something like that], I would be very surprised. And delighted.

The problem with Mass Effect and a lot of games these days is that they are made with the idea of trilogy in mind, the developers even say so in interviews.

I rather see games that could lead to sequels but can also be considered a complete game on their own.
