Pope Viper said:The shit is truly going to hit the fan. In my opinion, we've just given the Baath loyalists and Sunni extremists the martyr they needed to escalate the violence to uncontrollable levels.
Let the killin' continue.
• NEW: Bush praises Iraqis for giving fair trial
How is that in breach with their constitution? I was under the impression that they were following their own laws in executing him so swiftly, supposedly Iraqi law states that an execution should not be delayed after a sentencing and possible appeal had been completed.Jebus said:He didn't even get to finish the trial on the Kurd-gassing. How's that for respect for the Kurdish minority.
Also, the fact that he was hanged so soon after his trail seems to be in conflict with Iraqi law - it's ironic that they would breach their own constitution to hang someone for breaching the constitution.
Also, death penalty is barbaric.
Eh wha? I've been hearing the news that they are lawfully obliged to do so quickly.SuAside said:well, 2 days in a row here in belgium the news has been that it's unconstitutional for them to execute him within 30 days of the sentence. (i dont see why, but whatever)

Although I still haven't been able to find any definite sources that confirm or deny either of these possibilities.
Jebus said:Unless they wrongfully translated the Iraqi Security minister and Saddam's lawyer (and I don't see why the Belgian news would do that), their laws do state that they can't execute within 30 days of sentencing.
Under Iraqi law he has to be executed within 30 days of the rejection of the appeal.
The sentence "must be implemented within 30 days," Chief Judge Aref Shahin said.
Or, ehm, you know, the Belgians translated it improperly.Jebus said:Unless they wrongfully translated the Iraqi Security minister and Saddam's lawyer (and I don't see why the Belgian news would do that), their laws do state that they can't execute within 30 days of sentencing.
Probably has something to do with amnesty requests, etc.
