Background (Preamble):
Responding to the article below :

Over 8,000 tons of shark fins are processed each year. The fins only amount to 4% of a shark's bodyweight. This means that some 200,000 tons of shark are thrown back into the sea and discarded.

11,300 hourly, 100millions Sharks were killed annually. Already 18 species of sharks have been listed as endangered by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

The Tourism Department in Sabah has done a great job in promoting the State as an International Diving Site. E.g. Sipadan Island, Mabul, Kapalai and Other Marine Park in Kota Kinabalu.

Sharks play a very important role in the ecosystem. If shark finning continues to be a legal in Sabah it will not be very long before the reefs and diving attractions that draw many International travelers to our waters lose their appeal. The standing that Sabah currently enjoys as a destination in tune with the preservation and promotion of a healthy and vibrant marine ecosystem can only go to ensure future growth revenue so long as they are maintained and not depleted of its shark populations.

Please do check on this link to Save Our Turtles :

Petition:
We the undersigned, petition that the Department of Fisheries, Sabah, Malaysia make it illegal for fishermen to fin, or retain live or dead sharks.

We further petition that all fishing licenses for fisherman who do not live release hooked or netted sharks with their fins attached be revoked.

We also ask that the sale of Shark products be banned in Sabah, Malaysia due to the threat of Extinction of Sharks.

Also, volunteers are needed here. You can find it at http://www.facebook.com/thegreenconnection

No, I saw Jaws.

Important role in the eco-system? Like eating surfers? I can understand that, the fucking show-offs.

Wasn't there starvation due to large populations of fish being killed off?

Sharks haven't been altered since the pre-historic era of ridiculous life.

Ill save the penguins, but fuck the sharks.

The bigger question is, when sharks die off, how will we deal with the surfer population?

quick answer: eat them

long answer: use them as power sources to supply our rapidly expanding textile manufacturers

I love sharks and hate people that eat them...but that's just me.

You could, but I don't fancy eating stringy meat that is marinaded in hemp tan oil and Axe body spray.

I say scalp them. Surfers always have great hair.

Actually, Shark-Killing-Killer-Whale pods will be the end of the terrible beasties. But we can't let that happen. Can't be a shark-killing gap.

What the devil is up with the shark hating? You should all be ashamed!

You should be afraid of dolphins. Dolphins will rape you and barbecue your dog.

Sharks are trying to protect you from true evil (praise be to sharks!) and you're all unappreciative bastards.

a few years ago i remember watching a discovery/science channel thing on sharks, their role in the ecosystem and populations.

the end result was that less than 10% of shark varieties actually attack humans, and they play a pretty important role in the oceans as they do help kill/eat the more "dangerous" forms of ocean life out there.

but they grudgingly admitted that shark populations really are too high and are in dire need of thinning.

but then they said that for oceanic sharks there needs to be more of some varieties that are popular to hunt and kill so that they kill the dolphin and porpise population as they are in pretty large numbers and are causing their own damage.

I like Carlin but the oceans have changed quite a lot in the last few decades because of human influence, overfishing, pollution, etc. Maybe even more then the land areas of earth.

Yea dolphins, many folks are all up an arms about dolphins being hunted although it's the tuna they should be worried about. Got to protect the cute ones I guess.

Cute? Cute?! There is nothing cute about dolphins. Nothing.

I love how all these marine-biologists never factor humans into their equations involving the eco-system.

What the sharks don't eat, we will.

We need the fish more than they do.

If you disagree, you are a traitor to your species and should be shot.

No shark hate. It's SURFER hate.

Also, the raping part is true. There are stories about dolphin rape happening.

If the world is starving, we need to start looking into eating the sea.

Silly ))<>((, humans are not part of the eco-system.

Also, the raping part is true.
Of course. Everything I say is true. When will you accept that?

I would have no problems dining on a meal of dolphin. Actually, yes I would, they are dirty, vile creatures. But I will purchase a dolphin meal and throw it out. Rinse, lather, repeat.
