Sims 3 is out today

Look, Ma! Two Heads!
"You know... for my girlfriend".

Nah, seriosly I have been an on and off sims player over the years, I love "playing the ball as it lies" or in other words just kind of let the characters do their own thing and if one catches on fire or gets divorced then too bad.

The reason I kept dropping the game and forgetting about it thouth is that sims 1 and 2 were never really optimized for modern machines. Even though I had great specs, it still had more issues than something like Bioshock.

Anybody here planning on picking it up?

I used to play the Sims when I was in my early teens. I sometimes want to play again but I tried the Sims 2 and it didn't feel the same.

Sims 3 just seems like more of the same. Boring.

They never try hard enough. Spore for example could have been great if they added alot of "this and that" but in the end they casualed themselves to death. They really shouldn't have been afraid the make a hardcore game out of Spore.

Yeah, with spore just being able to hit a "hardcore" switch would be great... I mean when you play on hard or difficult or whatever it is very challenging but still just as shallow. I honestly did love spore, but it did not become something I boot up regularly which is what I hoped.

As for the sims I love the simulation aspect of it and it looks like they are expanding on that, so it should be a good game for people like me who like to watch a soap opera rather than work hard to have the perfect sim. The traits thing is clever, but the only thing I really want is a game optimized for modern machines. I hated having to explain to my girlfriend why it took forever to do something in the game, especially when I was playing much more modern games without issues.

It just came out today?

Damn man, I've been seeing people play it for like the past two weeks, I thought it had already been released or something.

It was leaked. I doubt I'll be playing it, some years ago when there was only one PC in the house my sister pissed me off with the first Sims game enough for me to never want to play it myself. I got sick just from watching the damn thing.

I'm not surprised... I was going to purchase it online but I ended up opting for a DVD (whenever I get off work today) because the online version has a limit of installations while the DVD is the classic "put in your serial code" technique, like they SAID (could be lying) that there is no DRM.

Frankly the spore DRM has not affected me at all but I know this is a game I also want to instal on whatever e-machine I end up buying my girlfriend as well as my computer.

Played it once, about 9 years ago. Now i have grown up a tad, and the basic idea behind that game doesn't seem very appealing to me :V

I always thought that people who are at least partly serious about gaming don't play Sims. Guess i was wrong

Say what you want about the Sims, it's the only game that allows you to create an army of lesbian corporate CEO robots that bring you money while your character does more interesting stuff.

There was a podcast I listened to where some game critics always under estimated The Sims as a hardcore game because you dont kill people, but otherwise it is like pretty much any other game. Also it has always had a hardcore mod community that scripts, textures and creates meshes and with a couple of mods you can do pretty much anything you want.

I played it last night for a while and a bit this morning, it is a huge improvement and runs a lot smoother, and the traits are pretty cool. Imagine the game as a sandbox rpg where all the quests emerge out of context... like if you have a job then you get a "mission" to get a promotion or if your character is a douche you might get a "mission" to kick over a neighbors trash. By doing well you get new skills and cash, by doing poorly you get to laugh as your sim is divorced or drowns in a pool.

Or a witch that causes couples to get fat or thin respectively to cause them to break up. Or make them wet themselves.

Or lay a vampiress and use her to scare unwanted neighbors.

It's not only optimization. Bioshock worked so well despite its mind boggling graphics is mostly because the game's engine renders what's in the player's FOV at any given time. The fact that the game's set in tight corridors and relatively small interiors helped immensely...

My girlfriend got this game and I guess I won't be seeing much of her for a couple of months.
She seriously loves this game. I don't think I've ever been into a game like she is into this and I'm the game in the relationship. Crazy.

btw Sims 3 is doing a better job of this now, so for example my character will go next door to watch TV and drink some beers, meanwhile my own house will lose all detail until I go back to it. Basically anything that is not central fades out and fades back in when you pay attention.

I'll have some good play annecdotes in a couple of days, right now I'm running "Lance Macho", a womanizing chef and the Green family, a couple that grows all their own food.

Run to the hills! It's coming!

Seriously, I've always hates the "Yippee, I ruined my own life, so I can just make a new, idyllic one here"-crap in the Sims-series.

(No offense, Sims-fans, this is just my opinion.)

The last time I played "Sims" I caused my Sim to die, cold and lonely, in a puddle of his own feces, calling out for his sim-momma.

I was over it by then.

I remember the original Sims.

I've also forgot it too.

I'm not really a fan of the series. I guess some people like it and that's cool. But, it's just not my bag.
