Space Marine/Warhammer 40k

Two-step

First time out of the vault
Those that know about WH40K probably know that the WH40K universe is very well developed with huge amounts of detail. While this will not all be reflected in the new Space Marine game I am sure that it will help stir a lot of interest in what is the largest and most popular table top strategy game system in the world.

This is a game that I have been waiting for, for a very long time, as I have been a WH40K fan for over 20 years. I have read, probably, every 40K novel released and currently have two WH40 armies ( Grey Knights and Chaos Space Marines/ Slaanesh) and am working on a third ( Imperial Fist). I have also greatly enjoyed the Dawn of War game series.

What many people may not know is that WH40K fans have been teased for years, by game developers. Finally, along with the Space Marine game, there is also a feature length movie that has recently been released.

I have seen where FO fans have created and used Space Marine mods in their FO games. So, it would not surprise me in the least to see many FO fans playing the new Space Marine game... and even more FO/Space Marine mods.

From what I can tell, the Space Marine game will be Orc heavy vs Ultra Marine heavy. Though I can imagine that some Chaos Marines will be thrown in for good measure. I also noticed that there are "Chaos Marine" skins, as well as some non-Ultra Marine skins that will be available...

I really want this also, as I play WH40k on and off for about 8 years now, and I like you have read most of the novels and play Dawn of War series. The Space Marine game didn't disappoint (much) as it was basically God of War combat system with very similar features, and a game being based on a near flawless game like GoW is bound to good. Only one thing annoys me about it....I hate how they endlessly shove Ultramarine propaganda down our throats.

Well, to be fair, they probably didn't want to re-use the Blood Ravens.

Not to mention that I'm fairly certain they want to use different chapters for different series, since Dawn of War uses Blood Ravens, Space Marine uses Ultramarines and Dark Millennium is going to have the Black Templars.

Personally, I'd like a game starring the Dark Angels (I had a Deathwing squad and a Ravenwing squad) . I always thought they were the coolest.

When will I have a Space Wolves game? Preferably in a freezing enviroment, with giant wolves mounts to boot.

Played the demo and I really liked it. It didn't feel like a shoddy console port, which was really refreshing.
I'm not much into third person shooters, but Space Marine just felt great.
I'll definitely get it, but maybe not yet.

Will get it if there are RPGish elements, such as getting customised gear or having different skills options. Otherwise, it'll remain a no-no, even if I rather like the world...

Burn the heretic. Kill the mutant. Purge the unclean

I am sure that Space Marine is not going to be any more RPGish than GoW. Besides, "individuality" is frowned upon in the Adeptus Astartes, especially when it interferes with the mission, the squad, the Chapter, and the Empire.

The reason that Ultra Marines are shoved down our throats is because they are the example of what a Codex Space Marine is meant to be... the standard by which all other Legion Astartes are judged.
Ultra Marines are also the main models that get shoved down a players throat, when they first start playing.... because they are easy to learn.
Someone new to the WH40K universe probably wouldn't understand the differences (beyond appearance) between an Adeptus Astartes Ultra Marine and a Son's of Horus Space Marine. And, while not exactly The "40K" universe as many of us know it, it is a sizable rip in the Eye which may allow others to find the Emperor's light and bring them out of their darkness. A path that I am sure that even the Ecclesiarchy would approve of.

I did see that there are going to be some non-Ultra Marine skins, including the Space Wolf Chapter armor. But, I have no idea what difference the SW armor will make in the game. Also, there are a few "special" weapons.... but how special these weapons are going to be, I don't know.

My starting army was a 1500 pts Iron Fists army which was rather fun, and I like the Iron Fists, their background is very interesting about the Siege of Terra and stuff like that. What I would like to see is a game set during the Horus Heresy, where you can variate between the many loyal chapters (disloyal as well to keep it fresh) to see the story of the Heresy from different sides. Like play as each chapter's patriach.

@Two-Step: you reveal yourself through your words, xeno lover! A faithful servant of The God Emperor would never refer to The Imperium as Empire, like the Tau do the small cluster the live in (for now, as it belongs to Ultramar and shall be taken back).

Don't get me wrong, the violence is satisfying on instinctual level, but the game is basically gears of war + god of war and it's basically Gods Gears of WarHAMMER.

also while not really familiar with warhammer other than bolters, severely disappointed by the actual lack of giant hammers.

and by the fact that as far as I could tell there's a three hit melee combo and thats it, which makes it less GoW-y and more GoW-y.

Two counter-arguments.

1) There is a big hammer in 40K, it's called a Thunder Hammer and it kills tanks dead.

2) There are several combos using two different buttons. These combos change depending on the melee weapon you're using at the time.

People should shut the hell up about Gears of War or whatever.
Yes, it's a third-person shooter with emphasis on melee.
It's not about being a goddamn original game, it's about being a decent third-person shooter set in the awesome Warhammer 40k universe (and everyone who thinks that that universe is a GoW ripoff deserves to be turned into a servitor).
Also refreshing, it's actually a decent PC game with actual options and all that stuff you normally miss from a console port. A shame that this is so rare these days that it's important to point that out.

Would love to see a DMC/Bayonetta-style game based on the Harlequins. Compared to space elf ninja clowns who kill people with break-dancing and razor wires that rotor-blade a man's insides into goop, even the Space Wolves and Blood Angels are bland and drab by comparison.

You mean like the low field of view and radial menus for everything?
Radial menus? Didn't notice that, weapons are hotkeyed.
And the field of view... Well, it's a third person shooter, but yeah, it kinda sucks.

The demo only had one weapon as far as I know (maybe I missed the option to change melee weapons) and the only options I knew of were Y (stun) or X X X for a nice little three hit combo.

Two, the game feels a lot like Gears of war, both in how the characters move and how the shooting works. Sorry to break you heart, but it's just how it plays. Melee is far better, enemies are somewhat more cooler, but dudes heads explode when you shoot them in a violent, gory mess.

Maybe if they wanted a really unique game for their franchise, they shouldn't have made a game that just feels like a somewhat reskinned Gears of War. Or made it before Gears came out.
