Splinter Cell: Double Agent

Got it today.

First things first: installation is 10 Gb huge (less if you don't install hi-res textures, which you should) and takes forever to install.
It looks gorgeous but, of course, there are prices to pay, first of all it won't even start if you don't have a PS 3.0 card and a gig of RAM, second; the performance is poor, especially when compared to Chaos Theory which looked better (with all the bells and whistles off) and ran much smoother.
The story is much grittier and darker but I liked it's presentation in Chaos Theory more.
The new double agent feature (being able to decide between being bad or good) is IMO superficial and not handled very well making it needless and detracting from the gameplay.
Also, the hud has pretty much been removed which I'm not so sure is a good idea, but it may grow on me after playing for a while.
The removal of the (buggy as all hell) coop, however, is a bad choice as it could have been a major selling point (if repaired).
But my biggest beef with this game are the motherfucking loads. Now, Chaos Theory (and many other games running on the Unreal engines) are commendable for having short loads but Double Agent skullfucks all of that by having not only painfully long mission loads but also long load periods when switching between and accessing different menus.

Anyway, I'll play some more and update this thread if necessary .

Are your load times really that bad? Everyone seems to be complaining about that, but mine seem to be fine. I am however suffering from horrible bugs, like most people who bought this game for PC. For one, none of my unlocks work, I get frequent crashes to desktop, mainly loading a new mission after finishing one, and of course, the lovely shang hai hotel bug, which breaks all my controls when trying to break into a safe.

If the game gets patched to a playable point, it seems to be the makings of the best splinter cell yet, in my opinion. The much darker story line, conflicting objectives, and new gameplay types, such as the underwater sequences (which are actually pretty fun), and sneaking around JBA HQ.

I'm at a stage right now where I just cannot continue without a patch, which is very frustrating, as I was just getting into it.

When you get to the shanghai mission, mind telling me if you can crack the safe? Thanks.

Well, I just started playing so my opinion on the conflicting objectives might change (Honestly, I don't think it will), and yes, the loading times are horrible for me, so much so that I find myself rather playing something else than suffering going through them. Haven't had any bugs yet...

BTW, do you have the 1.01 patch? I heard it fixes some stuff...

Aye, I have the patch, all i noticed is the option to turn on anti aliasing, which is actually quite nice, as it seems to be one of those games thats fucking ugly without it.

Well, Ubisoft did release it, so expect patches to be stupid and overtime, introduce game stopping bugs (As they did with Raven Shield). God I hate ubisoft.

I was looking forward to buying this game on Xbox 360 though. Anyone have any news on that specific console and Double Agent?

As far as I know, the 360 version is fine.

Also, about my problem with the safes, it seems to work if you hold down "W" while twisting the dial. Now my only problem is the frequent, save corrupting crashes :).

Okay, this bitch is finally of my hard disk after weeks of just sitting there.

I'm not installing the piece of shit again until some serious patching is done.

BTW, Fuck UBI, fuck it right up the ass with a rusty mace.

I was going to get the game, but then I read they removed coop, which is like, why?

By the way, since Eletronic arts bought Ubi, they're going to have a shitty hand down the next game's pants.

Come again? Could EA buy Ubisoft? I thought Ubisoft was the second biggest publisher

Shit, if there's a company that's worse than fucking EA than it's fucking UBI. I hope they do get bought, maybe than they'll stop releasing shit that has to be patched over the next four years into some semblance of playability.

The sooner remaining French game publishers go out of business, the better. Nothing but shit ever comes out of French game industry anyway.

The three first splinter cell games were stellar, I had no issues with bugs or patching. Can't say about the latest one, I haven't played it.

For many people (including me) the coop in Chaos Theory was impossible to play, and there were other massive bugs in both PT and CT.
Double Agent will remain unplayable for many (again, including me) until some heavy, and I mean heavy patching is done.

EDIT: I've read somewhere that 30 percent of people who bought DA find that they can't play it at all but for the life of me I can't find where.

It's flawless on the 360. I agree, the PC coop of chaos theory was choppy sometimes, but it worked well on Xbox, especially as you could play it offline, something I regret that they removed in Double agent. Let's hope the single player is good enough.
