Stargate Worlds - MMO

I heard about it awhile ago and I just applied for beta but I still am not sure what type of game it is exactly. Is it a regular MMO or does it combine that with TPS gameplay? I find the idea of a Stargate MMO interesting but it seems like a setting that would be much more PvP based than PvE...

yea, im not sure how they would work "healing" classes.
I'm interesting in what they plan to do for skills for the different races and classes. It'll be interesting to see which way they go with it, semi-realistic, scifi-magic, or super-hero-esc.

is this more like the movie or the tv show? I'm more a fan of the movie, the tv show i thought was alright, the special effects and a lot of the acting looked hella lame.

I was interested until the humans were in "power armor" ... that downright pissed me off...

The class system seems a little odd, especially the asguard class... I had such high hopes but, I don't think this will be my MMO crack that I have been so desperately seeking.

It's based on the TV show's canon. Also I agree that they have some really weird ass looking concept art for some of the human equipment. My guess is that they are going to explain it by either saying it was deciphered from the Asgard core (if the last few seasons with the Ori arc are even in it... [it'd be for the better if not and with the Asgard class that's my assumption]) or, more likely, adapted it from the other races or ancient technology. Still, after looking at more info on the game I'm not sure that they are going a reasonable or good way with the StarGate IP. The gameplay might end up being good but it looks like it takes some serious liberties with the IP, likely for the sake of balance but liberties none the less. That said, that's about what I expected so it might end up being fun (I'm doubtful seeing as I've yet to find an MMO that was fun enough to pay for [haven't enjoyed most I've played at all] and the top of my list is EVE).

depending on how they work it, it could be pretty fun.

i hope i get into the beta.

i just hope you can run through the gate and start shooting things up. i hope there are solo, group, and "raid" type missions.

I'm following this CLOSELY, I'm a big stargate fan and I'm cautiously optimistic about the whole thing, a lot of things would have to go right for them to pull it off.

Another thing that pisses me off about Stargate Worlds is the weapon/item system.

You have to be a certain level to use weapons like the P90 (35 if memory serves)... Why not do something like Tabula Rasa and have modifiers to existing technology or weapons making them better... Have different grades of P90's or better yet! Take a lesson from Fallout and have weapon skills! WHAT A CONCEPT?!

I too have been registered for beta but have heard nothing to date. Maybe I will luck out but at this point I won't spend so much as a dime on this one. It really shatters my hopes to immerse myself into the Stargate universe that I have spent copious amounts of money on in order to own every season and all of the movies.

So's I applied, too. I am worrying about the number of games going MMO, though - this could be a better singleplayer game IMHO.

Couldn't have said it better myself man, I really want to feel those staff blasts singing my hair as Daniel Jackson rushes to dial the gate home. But alas, my hair will be contained in some super crazy SGC/alien hybrid full body armor according to the concepts, I don't really remember SG-1 every using those bad boys.

I donno about Tabula Rasa (never played it) but I agree that level requirements for weapons is stupid. I think that it'd be cool if the only "attribute" that levels effected were skills (thinking in terms of MMO skills rather than Fallout skills), have HP be static, rank affected by missions, and items simply gained from fighting the right enemies (maybe), missions (definitely), and crafting/crafters (since they want a crafting system). The problem with MMOs is that they design them to be addicting and take forever to become good instead of to be fun.

I think that Stargate would make for a good single player and coop game and/or a shooter (for online play).

SGW was supposed to be a singleplayer game. they have actually been working on this for about 4-5 years. after like 2.5 years, they scrapped the SP game idea and converted it to a MMO idea.
