State Of The Union

I saw the first, 2007 State Of The Union yesterday and i must say, it was a bit of a shock.

It felt like i was watching Oprah or some other crappy talkshow where they use those "applause" signs. Sometimes it even felt like there was some kind of a sect meeting
Anyway Bush was a lame duck. He started with domestic issues and not the war. Seems like focus in the US is not mainly on the war any more, even if Bush would like it to be. He tried to be as neutral as he could to please the democrats. Unusual to see him in that position.

After the first part there was some weird "hero" act. During this act, a few selected people was raised to saint status by Bush for some crappy reasons. One soldiers, one elderly woman and two black person, seems like they got all bases covered

It was also amusing to see him turn around the fact that not mutch progress have been seen/made since the war on terror begun.

Our success in this war is often measured by the things that did not happen.

American foreign policy is more than a matter of war and diplomacy. Our work in the world is also based on a timeless truth: To whom much is given, much is required. We hear the call to take on the challenges of hunger and poverty and disease -- and that is precisely what America is doing".

Yea sure buddy, whatever you say.
If they would spend 1/10 of the budget they are spending on the war on hunger related issues, there wouldn't be many hungry people left in the world.

If American forces step back before Baghdad is secure, the Iraqi government would be overrun by extremists on all sides. We could expect an epic battle between Shia extremists backed by Iran, and Sunni extremists aided by al Qaeda and supporters of the old regime. You couldn't have though about that a few years ago? BEFORE you stuck your big fat nose where it didn't belong...
