Suggest me games!

Vault Senior Citizen
I'm about to pick up Might and Magic VIII and Might and Magic IX, and I'm considering finally trying Gothic and Gothic II.

Suggestions, peoples?
Are these good?

If you are not extremely patient or don't have a lot of time on you hands, I wouldn't recommend you Gothic, but you could try Gothic 2. I have both and never finished either. Too boring for me, plus graphic sucks heavily. And I definetly wouldn't recommend Gothic 3.

I've never played M&M, so I can't help you with that.

If you're into the old HMM games, try Age of Wonders, kind of a mid-90's game with decent graphics, sprite based.

Do not touch the 2nd one with a 10 foot pole however, they tried to make it too much like HMM3 and failed miserably and drove away their fanbase because of it.

It's story mode is ok, but the normal skirmishes are the most fun if you ask me, that and giving a boat landwalk is kinda fun :P

And no before anyone says it, it has nothing to do with the Age of Empires series.

Age of Wonders is really cool, I like the combat mode a lot.

I'm not talkin bout heroes of might and magic (awesome games though), im talking about the fpp party based rpg from the turn of the century.

Might and Magic 5 was alright, but Might and Magic VI and VII were awesome, and I was wondering if anyone know the two following it were worethwhile.

As for Gothic, I am very patient, and the game sounds neat. I also really wanna play Gothic 3 but I don't think the pc is up to snuff.

OH, and regardless of whatever I was talking about it or not, I will check out age of wonders, haha, it looks cool.

One of the best things about it is that you can customize your leaders and heroes and bring them out on the battlefield as fighting units, they removed that from AoW2 hence why it flopped.

--EDIT--

I can't say anything for FPP party based RPGs however just party based ones in general I've always had a spot on my shelves for the Exile series.

If you can find a pc version or an emulator there's one called Skies of Arcadia for Dreamcast that is pretty damn fun too, nothing like customizing a pirate ship, however it would have been nice if it had more ships to choose from, but the story's pretty good and the combat's fun.

Also try Grandia 2 (once again DC if you can find a PC or EMU version of it you'll enjoy it) the only down side to this game is it gets REALLY preachy and the main character has a complete personality flip in the last 15 minutes of the game.

For Choice and Consequence I would suggest hunting down a copy of Legend of Mana, it looks cartoony, but damn does it confront some decent issues, however I have only seen it as a PS2 game, once again EMU or PC version. Storyline jumps all over the place and you wind up with like 4-5 main characters before you get halfway through the game.

Well, Gothic may sound neat, but I never found it particulary interesting. I tried to play Gothic 2, honestly, but combat and interface is friggin' annoying.

Gothic 3 had so many bugs and ridiculous things in it, that I warn you not to try it at all. For example, there are numerous combat situations when it's you vs 50 orcs. Literally. Sometimes you get some help from npc's, but not always. Story isn't very interesting, typical good\bad\neutral scenario. Dialogues are nice, though.

Long time veteran of the Exile series (I bought them when they were still on floppy when I was only 12 or something, hehe), big fan of Spiderweb Software. I beat EVERY single Mana game, Secret of Mana, Seiken Densetsu 3 (fan translation, very well done, direct sequel to Secret of Mana only released in japland), Legend of Mana, and Dawn of Mana.

Also, Skies of Arcadia was fun ;)
And Grandia 2 was superb as well.
Played em and beat em :)

Gothic sounds iffy, but I am still intent on trying it.

I have Gothic 2 and played Gothic 3. Did not like them...at all. I even prefered Ultima IX ascension, which says a lot.

ive played all 9 of the might and magic's, only beaten 2 of them(7 & 8 but i got darn close to the end of 6) trust me dont touch 9, its worthless garbage. 8 is a new take on the gameplay that i liked alot, if you liked the old might and magics you will probobly like 8 but you will laugh at 9.

games

Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl.

Is one of the best game I've ever played.
It's a first person shooter with little charateristic of an RPG.
You'll find your self in a place called the Zone and you'll have to discover about your past. You are a stalker, a man who search for special things, and through many mission you'll arrive to the one of the eight final...Good game

Damn you're sniping the game suggestions, I'll need to find more obscure ones then, what's your feeling on RTS / TBS games?

I played the unpatched version of STALKER at my friends a couple of time and in my opinion it was one of the worse games I've played. Uninteresting and uninnovative.

Play Gothic 1 and 2(.5 if you got it)! These are some of my favorite actionrpgs of all time. They managed to create a coherent world and atmosphere for me. The storys are okay and nicely told but cliché'd. The combat system is tactical (if you mash the buttons you'll die...) and may be not easy to learn at first, but if you know what you are doing it rewards you with fun and sometimes adrenaline rushing fights. Well, that gets me to Gothic 3 which sadly got oblivionated and didn't work for me. It has a huge, beautiful and partly nice designed world but lacks in content and storytelling. The combat system has been replaced by a button mashing clickfest and the skill system was totally renewed. Oh, and of course i have to mention the bugs and performance issues with g3.
Tip: Try to play g1+2 with keyboard only from beginning on, I found it much better than the sluggish mouse support.

M&M? I don't know.

Might and Magic 8 is qiute good, but Might and Magic 9 really is made in a hurry. This clearly shows. Also, the ending in the last four Might and Magic games seem to of the same variety, although with some content changed.

Gothic 1&2 are great games, imo. Gothic 1 is probably the best one, I think, although Gothic 2 is not bad either. I'd recommend G3, too. It is a little different than Gothic 1 & Gothic 2, but still worth playing, I think. Unlike others, I did not have any problems playing neither the demo nor the full game. Also, for Gothic 3, there is an official 1.12 patch - and a 1.5 community patch. Jowood is working on an official patch 1.6 which should fix some of the serious bugs in the game.

I don't know if you like adventure&puzzle games, but if you do, you shold try out (or buy) some of these games:

Post Mortem, Still Life, Syberia 1+2, Culpa Innata, The Longest Journey+Dreamfall. For older adventure games, you should get (or play) Tex Murphy 1-3, Gabriel Knight 1-3, The Broken Sword Series 1-4, (1-2 are the first one, 3-4 are the newer ones), Sierra adventure games like King's Quest (and many more), the Old Lucas Arts adventure games like Day of the Tentacle, Maniac Mansion, Monkey Island series (1-4).

You really should get both STALKER and Bioshock as well. Halflife 2 and Halo 1-3 looks like decent shooters to me, too, especially the first Halo game called Halo: Combat evolved.

And for roleplaying games, you definitely should get NWN2+Mask of The Betrayer as well as a game callled The Wicther (if you don't these already that is...)

Dude, we are all out of decent games as of now. Why do you think we ha.... errr... disagree with Bethesda so much?

Might and Magic 6 is one of my all time favorite games.

Wizardry 8 is close in similarity, though it is turn based.

Wizards and Warriors might be close too.

As for recent stuff, there was that one game where you draw out the spells with your mouse. Shoot, I don't remember what it was called but it had a real fancy name.

(Here we are... it's called Arx fatalis).

D: I know, right?
No really though, I enjoy a full diversity of games, my problem is that I go through games too fast. I average something like a week on a game if I take my time, sometimes as little as 3 days, and in special exception with games like Morrowind, it'll last me a month.

I like games of any genre, really, with the notable exception of anything repetitive and unimaginative (mainly racing games, shitty puzzle games, flight simulators, and sports games, but even those genres have some games ive really liked)

PC is a bit of a crap monger, anything later than 2003 is likly not going to function

Wizards and warriors? isn't that a cheesy but awesome NES game thats a side scroller? Arx fatalis, googling :).

Currently playing through MM6, estimated time of finish: next friday (school is slowing me down I'm on accelerated courses :P)
Haven't played this game since it first came out, I'm amazed how epic it still is, I was worried it wouldnt have stood the test of time.

List noted, copy pasta'd to desktop. Played a few of those, but not all. The witcher is a bit past my system specs, and I beat NWN1 and 2 already, iffy opinion of the game but it had its fun moments. Beat all the Halos and Half-life games and Bioshock, as well :)
