Where'd That 6th Toe Come From?
swtor-jpg.jpg

see the timelines, chronicles of the events of the times surrounding the game, filling in some of those gaps in the new unexplored period. (the latest is just released chapter 9 and more will follow)
and here is the two amazing cinematic's that both looks amazing, has a ridiculous price tag and doestn really represent how the game looks like cinematic 1, cinematic 2

you can find a lot of info on the official site, if anything they are not getting cheap on background, plot and story as well as on their cinematic's
which is why they got the biggest writer team that i recall in any recent title, with promise of 16 novels worse of plot and line count surprising what we had in plantscape.

so what you think on this title and their effort, will it succeed?

plantscape

Man I spent so much time with plantscape. Just laying out greenhouses, upgrading irrigation, waiting for tomatoes to grow red and plump...

i'll give you one point for being a smart ass, if you understood that the 'e' skipped to 't' on the keyboard.

Why all the 3 letter names? Sooooo weird.

And, yeah. I never really enjoy mmos. The story is always driven into the ground.

Are you some kind of farmville fan

Plantscape and farmville fans are enemies

I guess if you wanted to make a truly epic Star Wars game, MMO is the only way to go, since it's the only type of game that can truly make up for the costs went into making it.

Still, I'd go for a KotOR 3 every day, I dislike having to buy the same game each month (and I simply don't have the money or need to do so). Free2play MMOs are the way to go, waiting for LotRO transition to that system this year.

sw tor will be a gimmick game and it will fail just like conan and star trek did.

the idea will be better than the reality

I honestly don't have high hopes for The Old Republic. I'm sure it'll be well-made and good-looking and blah blah, but the fact is that most of the fans of Knights of the Old Republic wanted a follow-up to the original two games, not an MMO and LucasArts/EA decided to take the easy route to profit instead (MMOs have high costs, but get a couple million subscribers from the Star Wars license for a year, and you've made a large profit already).

I'm not going to buy The Old Republic because it's in a genre I dislike, and because I consider it a cop-out of a game; in fact, I don't really know anybody who is all that interested, save for existing World of Warcraft fans who - wait for it - need a break from Azeroth. What a surprise.
as kotor fan i 100% agree that i would prefer it to be a SP RPG game and with the pazaak talk in the other thread, probably we are not the only one.

i too think that skotor dosent have much hope of succeeding, only from the opposite reasons, its the shiny cinematic's but the lack of shiny gameplay that deter many players, its also not a fantasy game (unlike 97% of the market) and doesnt follow the traditional melee tank and ranged support/healer scheme and mostly it tries to put actual plot dialogue and meaning in to the game where the market is ruled by WOW like and new full pvp trend (mostly FPS mindless deathmatch) so for them an mmo that plot wise will surpass any of the latest RPGs put together or even the old school RPGs, doesnt sound shiny enough.

personally i think that SWTOR show much more promise then Fallout online (even if i get extremely optimistic)

Can wait. I used to have a black halfling minstrel named HanSolo.

so am i the only one who think Free2play is terrible idea?
F2P means you'll create paid membership levels and introduce heavy dependence on micro transactions.

so now instead of monthly subscription where you can get a constantly updated full product because its their interest to keep us around.
you get a free demo where the paying customer are the focus of the dev's, so you play the extras part to populate the place, for every kido with spear $ get a better everything no matter how much you worked for, so he can farming you because eventually who cares about you, there always will be someone else getting excited by the prospect of FREE!

From what I've seen, it seems more like a heavily scripted third person coop action game with a silly dialog wheel than an epic MMO. I'm a huge fan of pretty much every Star Wars game, and TOR fails to entice me at all.

The problem with LOTRO going "free to play" is that it's going to be using a similar system to what DDO currently uses, and that system blows goats.

In DDO, you level normally until about level 6 (the level cap is 20). At that point, you will have mostly cleared the first two hub areas in the game, as there are only a handful of "premium" quests (This means you need to buy the appropriate "quest pack" to unlock them, and they are fucking EXPENSIVE). As you zone into the next hub, you'll see that 9/10 quests are now red (premium).

Want to level up without spending money? Well, enjoy grinding the same 4 or 5 quests (which are already dull as fuck) over and over with diminishing returns on experience until you level up enough to get to the next 4 or 5 quests to grind. Unlocking all of the quest packs is going to run you a few hundred dollars, and that doesn't even include unlocking new races/classes.

You also won't be getting any rest experience unless you're paying a monthly sub to gain "VIP" status, which is going to make the forced grinding even more painful.

If you want a decent, truly free to play MMO, you'll need to wait and see how Guild Wars 2 turns out; because LOTRO certainly doesn't fit the bill.

I'm not complaining, since I get bored with MMOs very fast. I haven't played any of this games where I reached the highest level, even if I liked the game.

Most MMOs are like this - you play a bit for yourself and level up to a decent level and then find a good guild to hang out with. Problem is, if you don't play regulary, you will most likely fall behind and often get kicked out of the guild or simply leave due to not being able to play with them. That's what happens to me - either I don't want to grind enough to keep up with the rest of the guild or it simply disbands due to some silly fight between the members.

This is why I am totally satisfied with Free2play system, I won't be reaching that high level subscribers-only stuff anyway.
