The Age of Decadence demo to be released in 2 weeks

WorstUsernameEver

But best title ever!
We haven't been following The Age of Decadence's monthly updates closely despite us covering the game, but this is more than worthy of being posted, as in this month's installment Vince just announced that the demo of the title will be released in public beta form in only 2 weeks.
Short version: the wait is almost over; the demo will be released in 2 weeks.

Long version: I’ve just realized that it’s been seven months since we’ve started testing. It’s hard to believe that it’s been that long, that the fall and the winter seasons are already over. You get so focused on daily tasks, which pile up faster than you can handle them, that you don't really notice how fast time flies. You look back, but you don't really feel it. Only when you actually count the months, you realize - in shock - how long it's taken.

So, 7 months, 1,900 posts in the beta forums, and 12 builds later (Oscar has just uploaded a new update), we're getting ready to release the demo - as public beta - to our audience.

I'd like to use this opportunity to thank our testers (whom I really can't thank enough). Their input has kept us very busy all these months, kept us working/reworking/tweaking/adding/fixing/breaking shit accidentally and fixing again. Looking back, I realize that back in August we gave the testers a very flawed game and they helped us turn it into a game that we're proud to give you now. It's not perfect in any way, but it's solid.

There were a lot of great ideas and suggestions and I wish we could implement them all, but there is only so much four people can do, even in seven months. Special thanks to people who have encouraged us to take more time to get it right.

I hope you’ll enjoy the game.
If you're wondering what the team will actually do during the public beta, here's what Vince had to say:
We'll only fix bugs. We don't have time for anything else, no matter how good some of the new ideas might be.

And finally, here are some juicy screenshots:

Highly unlikely, because modding the stuff is a bitch. Also there won't be any mapping tools and stuff to be released, if I remember correct (because of some licence stuff).

first, you have to play it for 3 or 4 years until you know everything.

then, you have to wait for a forum to open, where people talk about it how untrue things are to the setting etc.

waiting for a walktrough by peer where you realize that you missed half of the game and play it again for 3 or 4 years until you "really" know everything.

then, after more time you have to lurk around the forum until there is a "glittering gem of hatred" where everything about the game is awesome, and everything new shit of course.

After that time. A big soulless company can buy it to make a sequel for it exactly the way how it always was meant to be played. As a first person shooter.

So how long after this 'beta demo' before the game comes out?

* Graphics look way better than what I remember from that... combat demo

Even if i never have register on their site, i have been following this game for a while.
I have very hope for it.
I was first very impressed by his deep RPG features and now even the graphics look awesome, especially for an indie game !

A fairly long while I think. Teron (the section that the demo takes place in) is about 25% of the game and it's been a pain in the ass to test because of the many paths and options at your disposal. Testing the full game will be a huge undertaking (though I also really look forward to it if I get chosen for betatesting that also).

A bit off question, since I haven't been following this closely, but I am interested in - will AoD be only digitally distributed since it's indie, or will there be boxed versions?

Yes, I'm that stupid.

Other than that, looking forward to the demo. Veeery sweet graphics.

There will be an old-style boxed version available. Dunno what the pricing will be, and I'm guessing you'll have to order em directly from ITS, but they'll exist.

Will it come with a manual that's longer than 4 pages? Just used the closest I had at hand (ToR's) for reference.
Can't be old skool without an old skool sized manual.

Couldn't you just shoot them with the crossbow?

Wow, this looks really sweet.
Someday, we shall see a similar topic for the new Wasteland with juicy screenshots! Sweet 3d Isometric post apocalyptic goodiness! :drunk:

DIALOGUE CHECKS FOR DEXTERITY THAT LET YOU ASSASSINATE PEOPLE BY THROWING YOUR CROSSBOW AT THEM AS A DISTRACTION AND THEN STAB THEM WITH THE BOLTS

HHHHHHHRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGG

:aiee:

Aye, roleplaying (combat) actions via dialogues rock :D

"While snipping away your cigarette, you slowly start counting to three ..." (Agility / Intelligence)
Agility check fail: "Your clumsy attempt to be cool ended with a burned thumb and your opponents are readying their weapons"
Intelligence fail: "You forgot '2', your opponent starts laughing while his buddies start shooting at you"
Success: "Irritated by your self-confident action your opponent let the hostage go"

@topic

Nice one - I'm looking forward to the demo. Keep up the good work :)
