The Music doesn't work

Okay for some odd reason the theme music at the beginning works as well as the other sound effects, like birds in the background, gun fire etc and speech. But I don't get any background music.

Any reason why?

I'm actually having this same problem with my game now. Rather irritating, as I love the ambient music.

Erm, a little more info?

Like, one assumes you mean FO2, but assumptions are generally bad, so being specific helps.

What version / patches / mods have you got in there?

Off the top, without any more to go on, the only things I could suggest would be to check the music slider in the options panel, and if that's not it, see what the config file lists in the [sound] section for music paths.

Should be along the lines of:
music_path1=X:\<Install>\Fallout2\data\sound\music\
music_path2=X:\data\sound\music\

(Where X is the drive and <Install> is probably something like "Program Files", but could be anything if you installed it somewhere else.)

That's all I can think of at the moment, unless you've got some fruity proprietary POS sound card and/or out of date drivers and it's just your system being bitchy, which is of course, always possible too.

You guys have been around long enough to know that you ought to read the stikies.

So go.

I'll admit I didn't check the stickies, but I had looked at them some time ago and didn't recall there being anything about background music not playing. Looking at the Troubleshooting FAQ sticky again, I still don't see anything about it.

Yes, it's Fallout 2. Playing with Killap's unofficial patch v1.02.21, otherwise no mods. Checking the sliders was the first thing I did, not the problem.

For the music paths, it just lists \sound\music under both music_path1 and music_path2. Should it have the entire path (e.g., for mine, it'd be e:\programs\fallout2\sound\music\)?

Edit: Whoa, okay. Just did something that should've been obvious, and checked the music folder. It's empty. What's up with that? I did a fresh install and only installed Killap's patch. Perhaps his installer deletes the music files by mistake? I'm fairly certain it's not supposed to be empty...

Happens to me lots for some weird reason, just manually copy the music off the disc and put it in the fallout2\data\sound\music folder.

I have this weird thing where instead of music being in Fallout 2\data\sound (where you'd think it'd be) it's in Fallout 2\sound. And when I delete/move files from the Fallout 2 data\sound folder nothing happens, not the case with the other folder.

And if I *do* delete the other one, there is no music in-game and another *empty* folder will spawn
