The Vault Experiment

First time out of the vault
Hey, I played Fallout 2 a few weeks ago and I can remember most of the plot quite well but I forgot one thing: where exactly do you first encounter the evidence for the vault experiment? What kind of evidence is there in the game (I guess I'm confusing information from the game with information from Fallout Bible).

Also, are there any clues in Fallout 1? Apart from the fact that you are thrown away from Vault 13 after you complete the game...

I think the first mention is in Vault 13, although you can also find clues in Vault 8, I think.
None that I know of in Fallout 1. Vault 12 and Vault 15 are the other "normal" vaults and there are no mentions of their experiments. The failure of Vault 12's door could have been a simple mechanical failure, and I don't remember anything special about Vault 15's inhabitants.
/edit: Wait, no. Vault 8's and 13's records mentioning the experiment were cut content. I guess Richardson really is the first time you hear about it, unless the Restoration Project restores the computer files in Vault 8 and 13.

Restoration Project restores Vault 13 and 8 (Vault City)'s entries.

You need to hack it for Vault 13. And for Vault 8, if you have a high science skill, you will encounter a file.

Is there anyway you can post the file's content in spoiler tags? I'd love to read it but don't have the time for a play-through at the moment.

Wish I'd read this thread sooner, Vice Gray. I just played through both Vaults over the weekend. It's no doubt described on one of the FO wikis though.

I was actually surprised when I got the info from the Vault computers, thinking, "How the hell have I missed this before?" then I realised it must be from the RP. And you get some journals of the V13 Overseer too. He's a bastard.

Answer is easy, probably no time.
Btw. now I'm wonder why it doesn't appear in cut content in Fallout 2 wiki.
Tagaziel, if you looked there, could you answer? This was really cut and list on the Vault is incomplete?

Btw. devs at least wanted to show objective of Vaults in Van Buren... but we know how it ended.

Not EVERYTHING cut from FO2 was due to time constraints... All of the Vault Experiment hints that were removed were done because Black Isle felt that it gave away too much, too soon. They kept Henry's allusions to it when he mentioned the "Vault Behavioral Project" because it left no real information for players, just lingering questions. There were plenty of changes and removals in FO2 that were done because Black Isle liked it a different way, it wasn't all for lack of time and opportunity.

Ok, maybe I was too far in my assumptions, but you're propably too.
Btw. I doubt, that in cut info from boths Vaults is (i'm not sure thought) info about Enclave space program, so it wouldn't be, at least for me, giving to much informations.

Fallout 2 was a huge game. They could have incorporated more information about the Vault Experiments and the reasons behind them. But if there was a time or data space constraint they probably made the right decision by cutting the content instead of implementing it poorly.
