This one is good for a laugh

I've been a Fallout fan since it was first released in 1997, and I've been a member of every major Fallout board since I discovered the series (and since or nearly since the boards were created).

DO NOT join a Fallout forum at this late date, 2006. They're rude, bitter, and extremely xenophobic; I never post on them anymore. No Mutants Allowed is by far the worst, though the other two major ones (not naming any names) are barely any better.

Just don't touch them. They're like planets with acidic atmospheres, and only long-time forum members are adapted to it. Newcomers usually cannot adjust, unless they are equally jaded, very witty, cynical, and extremely knowledgable about Fallout and Fallout 2 . . . and sometimes not even then.

If you try to ask them any questions whatsoever concerning Fallout or Fallout 2, they will kill you and rape your corpse, screaming and grunting all the while. You have to search for at least seventy-five hours and make absolutely sure that the question has never been asked before ever. And I mean, ever. If it has, they'll know it, and you're dead.

According to the Fallout Bible, all the Vaults save one (the control) were designed as experiments by the government even before the war. Think of all the Fallout forums as Vault experiments gone horribly, terribly wrong.

Haha, so true! :D

I just love the way we're percieved over the Interwebz. Are we really that mean?

this has to be one of the nicest things anyone has ever said about us. i'm touched. :')

edit: this is a goodone too

You've all seen it in movies or TV. You wonder into a small town that looks pleasant enough, you're lost and need of fuel. You walk into the general store, ask where you can fill up your car. The manager smiles and asks if you ever played Fallout. You nod affirmly, saying you really enjoyed the game. The store owner's smile warms up for a moment before it darkens a shade. "You ever played Fallout Tactics?" You nod your head, but state "It was ok. Obviously not as good as the originals but it did it's own thing." Or that's what you would have said but the owner snaps at you "IT IS AN ABOMINATION UNTO GOD!!!" You realize at this point all the other patrons in the store are staring at you, most nodding their heads in agreement with the owner. You feel a little uncomfortable as you try to defend your thoughts on the game, though clearly no matter what you say it only serves to aggrivate them further.

You're backing out the door when you notice that most of the town is now watching the scene. Many are carrying improvised weapons like pitchforks and boards with nails on them. You raise your hands partially in protest but mostly to show you're not a threat. "Don't you think you're overreacting?" you manage to stutter out nervously. "It's not like I said the console game was better..."

"Did you just admit to playing the console game?" Cries one man. He wears a sheriff's badge. And that's when you realize you're not ever leaving this cozy little town ever again. Not in one piece anyways.

"We eat tonight, boys" says the sheriff. And the mob surronds you slowly, with a hungry gleam in their eyes. It's the last thing you ever see.

That's what NMA is like. More or less.

They're right, though: you people suck. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

I love this one:
Most likely yes. Because people disagree with one another. What I've heard of NMA, it's sorta like wandering into a (insert heavy metal band of your choice) pit with a Good Charlotte t-shirt on. Everyone suddenly wants to kill you, and before you know why, one of your legs is broken, you're bleeding all over the place, and to top it all off, there are people laughing at you for being an idiot.

...So, yeah. Better than WoW or any group of MMO forums.

But yeah, we are that mean. We're not irrational, though, like they maintain we are. We don't scold people for thinking Tactics was a good game an sich, we scold them for claiming that it fit Fallout.

Of course, anyone who hates us and has been here actually comes up with the exact same faulty arguments they still think are valid, like 'isometric is ancient and outdated'. I love how half of that thread consist of claims how we hate people who have a different opinion, while opinions are actually tolerated, it's factual fallacies that receive the ridicule and hatred.

Stuff like this:
These guys didn't hate FOBOS because it wasn't Fallout or because it neglected any Fallout Lore. They hated it because it was a console game. That it also deviated from the game lore was convenient to them, but not the primary reason. If it had been a better game, they still would've erupted like Vesuvius? Why, because they didn't approve.
Is rather ridiculous and untrue, since all of the hatred here directed at FOBOS was because it was a game whoring out the Fallout license, on top of that most thought it was pretty goddamn shitty at that.

Ah well, we just have to see that most people out there hate us because we argue from design points instead of 'but I like this better!'

That is so fucking funny.

It's like we are the community everyone loves to hate. And they are only basing the fact that we appear mean, is that of the beautiful work done by Rosh, roasting some dickhead n00b asking some bullshit question like, "Where is the ring?"

For all I care I love you guys!1!!

:gaywink:

It's like beeing a member of a degenerated mutant freak redneck family... eating others after raping them for 3 days... I better stop, before I start crying.

I love u guys.

Plus, we do have significant differences among our regular old-time members. Alec goes around saying that Arcanum is better than Fallout and some haven't even played through Fallout 2 entirely, like Suaside (I think).

But despite the extreme blasphemous nature of these 2 examples, we continue to tolerate these users on a daily basis.

WHAT?

this is slander! (and that's slander, not Sander, before you start another rumourmill)

just because I think "Fallout > Arcanum > V:tM-B > Fallout 2" doesn't mean I haven't played through FO2... where the fuck did you even get that idea? i must've played through the whole FO2 game more than 50 times. hell, it could be twice that for all I know, since I lost track a loooong time ago.

(i do remember a thread with someone who said he stopped playing once he got to the oilrig 'because it was too hard' but FUCK your brain must've shortcircuited, because that sure wasn't me!)

I'm playing Arcanum now when I have time. It's a great game, but i LOVE Fallout.
Arcanum is just COOL.

Well, shit. The one time I didn't do my research before posting and this happens. Give me a few minutes and I'll verify who the real culprit is. Plz, don't ban for failure to search. :puppy-dog:

By the way, I just noticed that love has been openly expressed above. Well, allow me to say that I'm personally in love with everyone here, and have been for quite some time. And I also love you Suaside...you're the one that looks like Gordon Freeman right? Yeh, i really like you. :wiggle:

EDIT: Found it

Ashmo! It was Ashmo the betrayer!!1

I've never finished Fallout 2.

The farthest I got without getting bored was the forcefield puzzle.

Fallout 2 is so boring.

It is rather hilarious. Like a little kid running to his friends crying "The older kids at school make fun of me! They are meeeean...".

"You have the audacity not to worship Pete's "RPG OF THE MILLENIUM!!!11eleven" and you actually DARE to say that Turn-Based is not as boring and outdated as the twelve-year-old "expert" forum posters make it to be? Then you're nothing more than a Post-Apocalyptic, alienated dinosaur. Kthxbye"

sjeezes! get over that damn hippie crap, goddamn it!

ok, I like most of you guys and i love it here, but for fucks sake, get a grip on yourself!

euhm, yes, that's me, more or less.

STOP LOOKING AT ME THAT WAY!

I've said it before: I don't bend that way, dude. go after Jebus or put on some high heels & try to hook up with alec or something instead...

what the hell is going on? this aint The Order!

That was fast.

You guys is so predictable.

But fine, let's place misjudgements of one entity in a thread that is about misjudgements of another entity. Suffer is fine with this.

PS: apropos

Well, can't blame a guy for telling the truth, can you?
Plus: me worshipping Arcanum doesn't mean that I don't think Fallout is a masterpiece as well. Heck, even Fallout 2 is a masterpiece. And Commandos 2 too, now that I come to think of it. And Age Of Empires 2. But that's about it, though. All the rest is crap.

On a sidenote: seeing how everyone here is spreading the love, I will do so as well:

I totally love you <strike>gays</strike> guys!

EDIT: Corrected a small typo. Mistook this shithole for The Order. My bad.

I don't get it. You attack one or two people who come along and say "izn t falout awsom lawlz? were is dogmeet in falout 2 hurrr" and a forum get's some sort of stigma.

some guy who thinks Oblivion is the pinnacle of CRPGs said:
If anyone ever tells you, "Man, I just found the cesspool of the Internet!"

... Now you can tell them, "No. Because I've been to NMA."

It's THAT BAD.

That's just plain harsh. What about all of those forums that pedophiles hang out at?

Also, there's a lot of love in this thread. I can feel it. It feels good...but disturbing.

Well, I've been reading NMA for a long time, and just decided to join recently. I can say I know many of you and I understand NMA may be a bit unwelcoming sometimes. I think its normal however... I can bear with it.
