Tim Cain interview on Matt Chat

Nonagon

Still Mildly Glowing
Matt Barton of Matt Chat just posted an interview on his channel with Tim Cain, in the interview he talks about all the games Tim Cain has worked on over the years, including Fallout.

Part 1:

Stay tuned for part 2, and possibly 3.

I like how Beth took the ideas that they tossed out and integrated them into FO3

ie: It was all a simulation = Operation Anchorage
ie: It had aliens = Mothership Zeta

Great interview though... that time in the gaming industry must have been great fun. I've heard Sid Meier talk about that time as well, and it was a time where games and gaming companies were often headed by people who were, at heart, gamers themselves, and made games that they simply wanted to play.

Cool stuff.

The glory days are gone…now games are built around stock numbers and market shares…the day gaming companies began to list on the stock markets is the day gaming died (I know I’m exaggerating a bit here, but). This is probably a worse situation than the game crash of the mid 1980’s…in those days there were too many shitty consoles and games, now we have too few, so much has been consolidated into a handful of monsters companies, added to the mix is the fact that many of the big publishers bought up many of the game’s best developers and eventually shanked them…

It was a great interview! :)

Nice to hear some more of the backstory from Tim Cain himself.

yeah i am pretty proud of Tim Cain. He did what a real man would of at the time. i am pretty proud of that too.

i like the music um it really gave me a feel ontop the side of my head of what a real fallout slap is like.

brb phone. damn it was my job coach.

anyway um i much appreciate this interview, i can see much more thought went into fallout 1 then i understood. It isn't just a game people were asked to make up, it is a real idea that evolved from one man to an entire team through real interest.

so much flavor in the origina fallouts than fallout 3. so i am going to keep in mind the next time i make 3d models for any fallout game, that i have a reputation to honor, that isn't my own.

Great video. Will there be more soon? I'm dying to hear the old geezer talk about Arcanum.

Well, the show is on a weekly basis, usually updated Sunday/Monday so we can expect the second part sometime around then next week. As for Arcanum, I couldn't imagine a Tim Cain review without him talking about that. :D

Someone asked about Arcanum in the youtube comments too:
Yup, it's coming. I think I will dedicate a full episode to it, but first I have to get a working copy from somewhere. I haven't had any luck finding it for less than $40.
He's been directed to GOG and everything, so I think he'll do a full Arcanum episode as well as asking Tim about it.
