Tim Cain joins Obsidian Entertainment

But best title ever!
Posting this news not long after work on Fallout: New Vegas has been wrapped up feels fairly weird, but going by his Facebook and LinkedIn accounts, ex-Interplay, Troika and Carbine Studios designer and programmer Tim Cain, which most you probably know for being producer and lead programmer on the first, seminal Fallout title, has joined Obsidian Entertainment as a senior programmer.

Assuming things between Obsidian and him work out, and relationships between Obsidian and Bethesda aren't sore, maybe this means he'll get to work on the franchise again one day? One can hope.

Thanks OakTable and PoetAndMadman (on the Obsidian Entertainment forums).

I find this very easy to masturbate too.

If Obsidian gets to do more Fallout, this could end up very, very well.

Sweet, I had heard he suddenly left his job working on that big MMO.

I wouldn't doubt that he was hired specifically to work on the next Fallout, as at least some people there are working on a currently unannounced title, as per JE sawyer.

It's a big if. But a man can dream.

Of course, for now Tim Cain's position is simply a coding one, so it would be best to not blow it out of proportion.

P.S.: We've been retweeted by Canard PC, woooh!

Best News Ever.

Now I want Jason Anderson there, and Leon Boyarsky.

And then Bethesda to give them Fallout 4 to make as they (Obsidian) see fit.

...one can dream

That would be amazing! But I doubt Beth will let them work on Fallout 4, though if they listened to the real Fallout fans and cared they would, that's "their baby," (I'm paraphrasing).

If they listen to the real Fallout fans, Fallout 4 will be like Fallout 3, but even more awesome. :smug:

A very important thing to consider is the success of New Vegas and it's DLC's. Money talks and Obsidian didn't screw it up. Bethesda made money and is still making money off New Vegas. I'm sure part of the reason that Bethesda went to Obsidian in the first place is the fact that they have many of the same people that made the first two games. In this regard, Bethesda did consider the reaction of the original fan base. Now, Obsidian has Tim Cain.

It has been stated before that Bethesda is currently preoccupied with Skyrim. That being the case, they may want to keep the Fallout momentum going and could contract Obsidian to do another Fallout game in the meantime. Tim Cain's position as a programmer could change if (hopefully when) they get to do another Fallout. Of course that is just speculation, but a man can dream.

Was going to post the same thing, why have Bethesda work on Fallout 4 and Obsidian not do anything for them when Bethesda can focus on Skyrim/DLCs/Other IPs while Obsidian makes them money with another Fallout.

There. I changed what you said so it would reflect my own (not very) humble opinion :) See how smart I am?

Seriously now, I hope they use Cain's expertise to produce some new IPs.

By the way, does anyone here know who owns the rights to Arcanum? A sequel by Obsidian would be nice :)

It's a sensible plan(Call of Duty model). Bethesda releases a new RPG every 2-3 years and some form of partnership team releases other RPG in between releases. Obsidian is a natural choice with their experience with Fallout, especially now with Tim Cain.

Wow...

Just wow.

This is worst case scenario material.

Now I'm sorry I even asked.

Congratulations on destroying some of my hopes and dreams with your first post :(
