Toxic Dump - A so-far unknown Special Encounter?

Kindo

Still Mildly Glowing
Fallout 2

I wasn't sure if this belonged in Gameplay or General Discussion..so I took a wild guess.

Just now (about 10 minutes ago) I managed to find a special encounter that I had never ever heard of before. I've never seen it mentioned in any guides or forums/fansites whatsoever. I did a search here just to make sure, but it came up with nothing.

Okay..so the encounter is called Toxic Waste Dump, and has its own map symbol and all. It's a pretty cool encounter - basically a large area filled with radioactive goo and geckos. It's probably a karmatic encounter, because it says: "Who did you piss off to get stuck in this?" and I was playing a bad-ass.

Alright, so am I the first or am I just making a fool of myself thinking I am? 8)

PS: I have two screenshots just in case.

Kindo isn't kidding, guys. There is indeed a special encounter named "Toxic waste dump" in Fallout 2 - I had it once too. And: it is mentioned in Per's guide.

Hm. Doesn't anyone ever check Per's guide before posting stuff like: "Hey people, I'm not sure, but I think I found something totally new and unknown in Fallout 2..." Trust me: 99.99% of what can be found in Fallout 2 is in Per's guide.

Hm.

That's true. That man did an excellent job of analyzing every friggin' single detail of that game.

Heck, I played FO2 a couple of times and had checked out Per's guide on several occasions when I discovered something really cool in Golgotha. I'd discovered a family reunion that takes place in the massive graveyard that occur only under a specifc set of conditions. Induced with awe, I came here on the old boards and posted a thread about it. A few people who read my thread mentioned that they didn't recall reading that in Per's guide either and maybe I really had discovered something new about the game! Unfortunately we all looked to make sure and it was hidden somewhere deep within the text file. It still was pretty cool to have a discussion about something 90%+ of Fallout gamers had no idea even existed.

Point is, it's alright if it was already known to at least one other person. Many people haven't seen that special enounter, so it's pretty informative of you posting it here. Keep up the good work.

isn't it that stupid fucking area where you encounter that stupid fucking dog who gave you (for as long as he was following you) perk jinxed and he had 999 hit points so it wasn't so easy to get rid of him?

No, the dog is a different encounter. Funny though, because after I found the Toxic Waste Dump, I headed down south and I immediately got that encounter too. :P

Ive been at that random encounter, didnt give anything and I just thought it was common knowledge.... Guess not

You probably have a quite low LUCK, right? Or did you choose the Jinxed perk? That's when you have more chance to get both (badass) encounters.

The only thing I got from the Toxic Waste Dump encounter was a humongous amount of radiation. And if I remember correctly I had to reload because I didn't have anymore RadAway. The dog is shit as well. Shoot him or something.

You can get out of the Pariah encounter without the dog joining your party with little effort, so there's no point in shooting the inopportune pooch.

As for the Toxic Waste Dump, I'd consider it a 'hot' place rather than a 'cool' one. It's the most radioactive spot in all of Fallout 2 , surpassing even the inside of Gecko powerplant reactor. Before you are able to fleave the map, you'll accumulate a troublesome amount of rads.

Kept getting that encounter all the time, anyways. Even with substantial LK one's quite prone to finding himself in that encounter , so the only solution is to build up a good Outdoorsman and *avoid* it.

The Pariah encounter is fun :P
"It's that damn bad luck dog"
My character had luck 1, and you can guess how the battles went after that

The dog is great!
Maybe it's a bug, but everytime I get this dog my every shot is critical and the bad guys rarely even can shoot :P

I've gotten that encounter once. Decided to walk around to see what was up. Not a very good idea, let me tell you... Stupid rad counts :(

Never had this one sick bastard- I entered it jist thru ctrl-R. But I had Holy Hand Grenade encounter in a patched (1.05 unofficial) version- at last! :D Kewl, ain't it?
