A/ public transportation: Not every body has alot of money to buy their own car/vehiacle, so there should be public transportation. For many years raider and desert bandit has hount many people. There should "someone" who see this condition as an opportunettly and make a "biro of transportation", like guarded public bus/caravan. Or maybe it's time for NCR-Vaultcity-New Reno-and other city to built railroad...

B/ private Transportation: This is a vehiacle that we can affort to buy and used it.
1. as every fans want: more vehiacles, motorbikes & cars...
2. living transtportation: there should be an option to train animal or beast, so you may ride a horse or brahmin or even centours. It's not only riched fallout transportation, but also riched type of work (animal trainer)in fallout universe. :-)

C/ Alternate transportation: this is a big/great transportation like tanker ship which bring us to oil rigs (fallout2). This type of transportation need many people or at least "special skill or item" to used it. And this type of transportation is ussually direct you to some special places. Fallout 2 has introduced us with Tanker oil and Vertibird, but unfortunetly there isn't many places can be visited by tanker oil and there isn't any chance of riding vertibird. I hope in FO3 BiS give us chance to ride vertibird (as an alternative vehiacle to find "special/secret places, like oil rigs for example") and bring up more offshore place/island(/special-secret places) for tanker oil to visit. And off course, i hope there is new alternate transportation...mmm...maybe submerine? >:-)

>A/ This is a good idea, travelling protected and not having to own transportation of your own (wich should be a lot more expensive in Fo3), but I guess the fun in Fallout was that you encounter lowlifes while travelling. Travelling by bus may seem safer, but raiders on motor cycles and/or desert buggies (appropriate transport for deserts) are a lot faster then a bus. And trains always take the same route and can't 'drive' around a railroadblock, so that should (at random moments) deliver some '(un)pleasant' situations.
Trains can also transport a lot, so you could rent a wagon to transport your important stuff (car, buggy, whatever), running away from a raid at that time means losing your possesions.

B/ Or lease a car/buggy/bike/truck/brahmin (with wagon), like in FF8, each with there own advantages:

#car : 4 persons - 'bout 1000 lbs cargo - 80 kph (on road) 40 kph (in desert) = fuel
#buggy : 2/3 persons - 'bout 400 lbs cargo - 120 kph (on road) 80 kph (in desert) + fuel
#bike : 1 person - 'bout 200 lbs cargo - 150 kph (on road) 60 kph (in desert) - fuel
#truck : 3/5 persons - 'bout 2200 lbs cargo - 70 kph (on road) 50 kph (in desert) ++ fuel

brahmin : 2 persons - 'bout 600 lbs cargo -
10 kph (on road) 10 kph (in desert) no fuel

you should also be able to hire multiple means of transportation at the time, for instance, travel through the desert with you and 4 NPC's; either a truck, 5 bikes, 2 buggies or a combination. This also brings a new type of raider (on bikes or buggies) and NPC's biker npc's (wich already got there own bike or a transporter (used to drive a truck). now you should be able to tell who drives and who goes with what (let the transporter drive the truck is a lot faster than letting the biker do it).

C/ I like the idea of being able to visit Island, wich have been cut of from the mainland for a long time and have just recently or a lot earlier started to reinstate society. That could bring more change or scenery in the game and attitude. (think of it, those people never even heard of the enclave or the master before, came out of the vault a lot earlier or later, having no contact with others at all, meaning new technologies and abilities. Never saw a deathclaw or centaur or wanamingo before.)
As for new locations, how about an underwater base/vault (water stops most radiation) you could reach with a sub, or an underground city (made out of a vault and some surrounding caves)wich can only be reached by taking a quest to investigate some unusual activity surrounding a mine or something (with turns out to be a working subway system the inhabitants started using to find a place to go topside).

A/ well...the idea of public transportation is coming from the truth that walking in the desert without vehiacle (in the begining of the game) is very distrubing, especially if you are in hurry, meanwhile you haven't enough money to buy a car. By using public transportation you can save time for quest-with-timing. Public transportation is like brahmin guard, sometimes you can encounter raider or enemy in the middle of the desert, especially if there are new kind of raider (just like you said, William) like desert biker (raider with bike). And using public transportation isn't free, you have to pay for the transportation. Some public transportation like train may be used for importance quest (there is one that cross in my mind which is you must bring a giant computer, maybe twice then skynet in size, in short time)

B/ I like it, but there is some "upgradeable" for these vehiacle, isn't it?
* Car : anykind of stuff that i don't know what the name is but can boost the speed and save fuel
* Buggy : same with car, maybe you can also attached some weapon to it
* Bike : do you remember Jerman bike/Nazy? There was attached room/box to bike which suppose to used by snipper/attacker...so there could be 2 person for 1 bike...
* Truck : some room for bring heavy and giant stuff

Living transportation: well, i imagine if i can ride desert lion not brahmin, but well....never mind

C/ yes, i like the idea of you, Will....talking about underwater, i want to added some possible ability, please allow us to dive or swimin FO3. You might need some item for diving to deeper area, like a tank of O2, underwater mask, etc...with special ability that you can learn from someone, off course.

The idea of building your own car

In fallout 2, you can upgrade your car by someone help, montir or mechanic...as i remember there are at least 3 people there who can upgrade your car, am i correct? Now how about if in fallout 3, you able to upgrade your own car both by your own self and by other people? and maybe you can redesign your car too, like changes your original wheel to newest radial wheel, or changes your car's colour from grey to metalic silver/black or even maybe give your car a tattoo or some kind fire grafiti in it...
a/ other people: they may offer you some special thing that you yourself can't do it, like boost up your cars speed or new super mechine and also supplay you with new type of radial wheel or make special grafiti, becouse they have the facility and instrumen to make it and you don't (but you can buy it, i guess)
b/ yourself : you should need at least 70 skill of electronic/scient and 70 repair skill (maybe with a special perk), and of course you also need some instrumen and item to upgrade your own car. I don't know what kind of upgradeable which you can do, but at least you should able to changes your own wheel...

A/good idea I would like to be atacked by a bike gang while riding a bus
train atack-already seen in 75% of western movies

B/ it would be cool to be able to have multiple cars

C/ the underground base thing is like the slag caves in Modoc (Fo2)

RE: The idea of building your own car

Perhaps getting flat tires in middle of the wastes, having to change it. Or buy some scanner and a Radio, combine 'em and build them in the car to function as a alarn. Or as you said, changing tires, like special ones, such as bigger Jeep tires, for in the desert, smaller ones for on the road and snowchains, for snowy parts in the landscape. Maybe, If you'd buy or find (kill some inhabitants, pref. criminals) a 'chopshop', you could do bigger changes to your car. Like speeding it up, giving it FWD, paint it or entirely disassemble and redesign it (with the help of an NPC of course, maybe even one that can join you).

And that brings along a nice Special Encounter (luck 6 or 8, outdoorsman 120%) for finding the actualy Fo2 car, WITH GRAVPLATES (the only salvageable components.)!!!

Of course, the same thing would go for other, above named vehicles, like the motor (instead of FWD... ehr... ahm, well, figure it out). Oh, and one problem... HOW WHERE YOU GONNA UPGRADE A BRAHMIN? STEROIDS???
nah, just kiddin... it could, can and might will work.

RE: The idea of building your own car

Perhaps a Quest Location, or insane luck encounter or after the game ends thing:
Go into a pre-war or war-time base, rumble and drive out in a TANK! Aye, Heavy Armor! Big Gun! Kaboom!
;-]

Tank? heavy armor?

Well...that's to big! I meant you can't ride a tank from city to city, can you?

But i like to see more "old" armor lying here and there, like when we saw a mortal in millitary base...another junk town, maybe?

Car Lot

There need to be a 2 big car lots they got to be big car lots with different cars and vechiles, lots of parts, and service. There also got to be Chop Shops, "Used" Car Lots, Out House Sales, and Stolen Car Sales. There shouldn't be a ton of them either like a couple of each.

Sean "Mingun" Tomoc

now that feel like show-room to me....:-)

Hehehe...yeah, now it's seem that fallout 3 will have show-room for "old" car...hehehe
nice idea...couse i want to see some big junk town full with montir or mechanic NPC. Maybe they can provide us some MR.Handy (a robot with 4 or 6 arm, remember???).
