Valve concept art

First few were giving me a Neuromancer/Shadowrun vibe, but the star crusiers killed that.

I would hope those shots with just stretched out foreheads are fake. That's lazy IMO.

Those are some really nice character drawings. For a space thing, it looks pretty sober - no tentacled aliens or blue octopus women. And that's a good thing.

Fuck if I can guess what they're for though...

For all we know, this is just something one of Valve's artists did in his spare time. It doesn't have to mean anything.

Yes. But that's boring. Stop being boring.

Either Valve is expertly trolling or they were for real, then, as PC Gamer has pulled it all.

This is the internet though. A valve once opened can't be shut. Here

Some of the art kinda looks like it could possibly come out of Half-Life, but the stretched-forehead aliens (never liked these) and the starships grind that theory into dust. I also don't really see even Valve drawing all that concept art just to troll the internet, so maybe it's a new IP in the works. But so far it kinda looks like a generic sci-fi one (not that I am an expert in any way).

I say it's about time Valve releases a new IP anyway, if they are so stubborn about denying us Episode/Half-Life 3, or even a lousy Meet the Medic video (I know it's not made by the same people, too). At least we will soon have Portal 2 to get our Valve fix.

Slightly off-topic too, anyone got an update on the Black Mesa mod project? They have been going at it for quite a while with very little updates.

If it's Valve its gotta be a FPS.

My guess it's a story driven linear adventure with lots of action all in first person. Probably not multiplayer for story (like coop Left 4 Dead) although there will be a deathmatch I'm sure.

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

P.S.

Great find BN. I love the guessing game these turn out to be.

The only thing I want to hear coming out of Valve these days is one of two things:

1) Half Life 2: Episode 3

or

2) Half Life 3

As excited as I am for Portal 2 (pre-order in place) I'm really sick and tired of the limbo state that Half Life has entered... and to be honest, this concept art (if it isn't a massive troll) doesn't look very "Half-Lifey" to me.

Unfortunately the only thing you do hear coming out of valve is a hiss of steam.

I hope it's a new IP, or at least an IP new to PC gaming. A Sci-Fi RPG from Valve? Surely I jest.

Yeah, I'm bored of the Half-Life episodes. The first one was OK, the second one a bit better, but I don't remember playing either of them and going, "Wooo! Fuck yeah, Half-Life!"

I'd much rather wait a bit longer and get Half-Life 3, as that would mean a new setting, art direction etc.

Also, not a big fan of Portal at all. Dunno about the second one, maybe it has a bit of a story as opposed to just slapping a bunch of challenge 'rooms' together, but the franchise just doesn't do it for me.

I'm bitching though - Valve can still create games that are 'out there' creatively and that's something I should be grateful for in these times of Call of Duty and Oblivion clones...

According to their forums it's still in development. But who really cares at this point? The whole premise of the mod was to redo Half Life 1 with modern graphics. After years of delays even if it were to come out today it'd be as outdated and quaint as the original game.

Get Half Life: Source and download this instead http://hds.newmail.ru/eng_download.html

A bit longer? By now they've had more than enough time to produce Half-Life 3 and all we got is two episodes, one of which sucks balls.

I'm glad the episodic thing never caught on much for gaming. Valve is just a showcase in why and how it doesn't work. Hopefully they'll abandon it too.

I think everyone is with you on this one. Imagine what a shit storm would ensue if Valve announced Episode 3, after all this time. They pretty much HAVE to release a full sequel at this point.

Episodic content works for puzzle games (ie: Sam & Max, Back to the Future, etc) but not for much else.

Yea, though trying to name anyone but Tell Tale who can manage to put out episodic content on time is tricky.

I agree Alpha... it seems that the format really only works in Tell Tale's hands... Valve's experiment has been an unmitigated disaster IMO.

As BN stated, in the time it's taken to get two episodes (both of which are, IMO, mediocre) we could have had Half Life 3.
