What is Vic's repair level, or more realistically, what level should mine be at to make him expendable? Also, exactly what good does Lenny's doctor skill do? I thought it might add to my chance to succeed at first aid/doctor checks, but it doesn't appear to. When I told him to heal himself, he basically couldn't.

My goal in this is to figure out who I can drop and when for more useful party members. This deathclaw guy in Vault 13 seems pretty handy, although not being able to put armor on him saddens me a bit.

NPC skills increase with level: Vic's repair skill progression is 49, 54, 66, 71, 81, 88. If he could reach level 6, it would get up to 106. Lenny's doctor skill is 68, 74, 87, 106.

Quoting from Per's guide:
"Certain NPCs (Vic, Lenny, Myron) will use their special non-combat skill if you try to use that skill on something you're not standing right next to, and as long as their skill level is greater than yours."

Since tools and doctor's bags give a +20 bonus, they're only useful if you haven't put many points into those skills yet.

Yeah, I remember the part about not standing next to the thing, but what if I'm trying to doctor myself? Lenny can't help? I'm the one I use it most on by a long shot. :\

Fallout 2 Companion help

Playing fallout 2 for the first time, managed to get Lenny to join up with me (the ghoul doctor) however i cant figure out how to make him heal myself, or other companions roaming with me.

Anyone have a similar problem ?

Well, yes. In fact this is not a problem... this is a feature, as the saying goes He can heal you as a doctor before you first pick him up (like through dialogue: "So I'll just heal you now and you'll pay me lotsa money!"). However, once you do, there's no way to get him to heal you like this, you just get the normal combat dialogue options, and if you use Doctor on some party member (and you're not standing right next to him), Lenny will heal him as long as his Doctor skill is higher than yours. If yours is greater, then you'll end up healing the party member yourself, and it makes no difference because if Lenny heals someone, that counts within your own limit of healing three times a day. It's even better, you do have a greater skill after all?
