Video game mods, improved engines, etc

Mildly Dipped
As the tittle states i made a general thread about fanmade stuff for commercial games.

I myself dont have too many experiences about this but I have couple of good examples about the subject. Of course the great Restoration project which you all know by now allready and my newfound love Quake2XP with resolution pack.

Quake 2 XP(or Quake2expanded) is basically a tweaked gfx engine with some modern lighting effects slapped on it, like dynamic shadows and lighting, improved character models and bloom. Everything can be turned on and off from the options, so if dont happen to like some spesific effect just turn it off. If you feel like doing a rerun of Quake 2 try this one out.
There are also many other (and newer) versions of this such as Quake2max and quake2evolved. Remember to get high res pack to go with them.

So you have any intresting stuff youd like to share with us or looking for some recomandations for mods to game you like go ahead and discuss. Itd be great if you just didnt make lists but give us a little description of the mod.

Ps: Oh and if someone happens to know any syndicate wars related fanmade stuff it would be fantastic.

SHTUP is a mod for System Shock 2 which aims to increase the resolution of all the common (and quite a few of the not-so-common) object textures. A secondary objective of the mod is to correct all other graphical glitches, such as typos, continuity errors, texture alignment errors, and so on. All of this is to be done while sticking as closely as possible to the original art style. Simply put, our goal is to make SS2 look like a higher-res version of itself.

Rebirth is an enemy model and skins update and therefor fully compatible with SHTUP, the object texture update.

If anyone hasn't yet experienced System Shock 2 do yourself a favor and grab the mods above and play! I played it 2 years ago and had no idea it would be that amazing. Definitely blows away any newer game I've played in many years.

Mutoes, mind posting a few links to the Q2 mods? I'm in the mood for some old-school Stroggoodness.

Where to begin...

# For Thief 1 and 2, there is the Enhancement Pack which helps bring the graphics of the games into the 21st century. There's also one for Thief: Deadly Shadows. There is also an AI tweak mod around for those that breeze through the Thief games. Look here.

# Duke Nukem 3D has just had a major release for the High Resolution Pack, which combines better graphics with the latest version of eDuke32 to make the game run on modern systems. Included is also a game enhancing mod, Duke Plus, that gives you smarter enemies, alternate-fire weapons, karate kicks (!) and overall harder gameplay. Duke Plus still has a few kinks to work out, but otherwise it works OK.

(For those that remember, a similar project is starting up for Blood. It's in its early stages as is, but soon you can relive one of the best FPS games of the 90s.)

# You propably know of this, but Gothic 3 just had its latest release of the Community Patch, V1.7. This is 800MB of bug-fixes, improved combat, skill tree tweaks and just plain better gameplay. A Questpack made specifically for CP 1.7 is currently available in German, and being translated to English as we speak.

I'd like to recommend the Magna Mundi Platinum mod for Europa Universalis 3 (you need the expansions, too). I've only just started to use it, but it's basically a whole new, and superior, game. The part I found most interesting is the way the mod models the Sengoku Jidai.

Also, I'd like to recommend the Justice League mods for Freedom Force, for fans of that game. It's divided into chapters, and the production values are pretty high for a mod. The same site also features another mod I've yet to try, called Pulp Fiction, which looks interesting. That one's available for both Freedom Force and for Freedom Force vs The Third Reich.

Jagged Alliance Diehards have been dragging the game screaming and struggling to the new times. You can jump over to the Bear's Pit to see what they have released this week. http://www.ja-galaxy-forum.com/

1.13 Unofficial patch (check the build of the patch too. they have been upgrading the patch since the release) adds most of the real world and Development stage guns to the game, as well as adding higher res, multi player, improved ai, and all the regular stuff.

There are also New Campaigns and Campaign Mods to spice up your game.

Urban Chaos Campaign Mod replaces the rural and mostly agrarian country with Urban areas as well as adding gangs and smugglers to the overall picture

Renegade Republic is a seperate campaign that focuses on a small non-existing country in the south black sea area. (Don't know where Turkey went in that campaign :D)

There are also some other mods like Dedriana Lives.

Another game mod you may want to get is the English patch for "The Fall: Last Days of Gaia". This game is from the creators of "Soldiers of Anarchy". It is a Squad based Rts with the usual ability score and talent trees and a few choices here and there. The game is only released in German, French, Spanish, Russian and Polish. A few other eastern languages do have localizations too I believe . The patch replaces texts with English ones for Polish and German releases. (Not sure about other releases).

Edit: Hmm those cheap gits at Silverstyle have dropped the English forum for fall. I'm not sure where i Dled the patch but if anyone is interested, Pm me and i can post it to you.
