W-what, wait, WHAT?

Makenshi

Ahoy, ye salty dogs!
Sorry for creating such a silly topic, but... but... let try to make it short:

I play xbox360 regularly with a bro, at his house, so all games got to be split-screen co-op (SSCO, from here on), if we are to have fun. We noticed most games these days seem to have online multiplayer but no SSCO, which is an outrage in my opinion (I see things as "console = gather friends in a room", not just online stuff).

So I went on looking for those silly "top 10" lists, just to gather a few names, and when (just a minute ago) checking a game called Hunted: The Demon's Forge, something caught my eye:

Developer(s) inXile Entertainment
Publisher(s) Bethesda Softworks

I was all like ow wow wow what the f-

It surprised me that Fargo's company worked with/under <s>the devil</s> Bethesda, so I thought about sharing this here (it is general gaming, after all, isn't it?).

Any opinions about it, if there is any to be had?

It occurs to people only now that Fargos company released nothing but mediocre shovelware before? Can't wait for wasteland 2. :smug:

That smug emoticon fits your personality.

I've noticed something about you Surf, you are negative about everything. Must be a sad existence.

I am just trying to be realistic and don't let myself clouded up by hypemachines or PR speak, something Mr. Fargo sure is talented with. If Wasteland 2 *does* turn out to be good besides this, then I will gladly admit I was wrong.

Thing is, you being "realistic" is always negative-nancy style. There is "not getting hyped up" and then there is "bitching about every little thing". The later one is what you do.

Yeah, yeah, whatever guys, just let Surf Solar do his thing, who cares, just don't pay attention to his posts.

It's not exactly news. I never played it, it didn't look interesting. Fargo never talks about it. He happily talks about the Bard's Tale, but it seems pretty clear his experience working with Bethesda was not too enjoyable.

So stating that the games they released before are mediocre now is "bitching"? 'k :)
well, you have to remember that pretty much ALL of the awesome game developers released well, lets say "paychecks" once in a while. Some more then others.

David Brevik? The Guy responsible for Diablo (more or less, he was not alone but he is the name people remember thx to D3 and all the stuff he said about it). Lets take a look on some of the projects. Hellgate London for example. Quality game? More like mediocre ... if anything.

Then you have of course Sid Meier. Who could ever forget him! The guy behind projects like, Railroad Tycoon, civilization! But those are just "some" of the games he made or where he was responsible for. I sure have not played all of them, but I would not be surprised if not all had the same success like Railroad Tycoon or have become as known like civilization.

And there are even more game developers with similar situations.

Seriously. It IS very difficult to always deliver the same quality. And not always is it their fault.

Sometimes you have to deal with unrealistic schedules, budget, inexperienced and/or incompetent teams or sometimes with all of it.

you can seed the best flower in the world in bad earth and it will never grow to its true potential.

I don't want to defend every decision. But we should never forget that people like Fargo or Brevik are often the face in front of the project, what happens behind the doors is a different matter. The biggest problem I think, is to work with a team. You have to keep the different people you know, happy, motivated and focused on the project. And particularly when you work with very creative or even talented people this can be an extremely difficult task! You would not believe it how hard it can be to work with those people sometimes - I just had that pleasure a few days ago ... you KNOW there is a better way to do something and how to work ... but people will not accept it for what ever reason. You explain it to everyone, and they agree with you, because its common sense ... but again, the person you have to work with doesn't agree with you. This makes it a real pleasure to work ...

I am usually very fast with criticism. But I usually don't like to blame one person alone, even if he had some high position, like art director or what ever. It can be difficult for everyone. Either for you if you have some stupid boss, or for the boss if he has to deal with stupid employes. Not to mention there can be pressure from the outside. The investors sure do a lot of pressure as well.

Railroad Tycoon sucked ass.
your face sucks ass! :P

RT was one of the best games of its time. I would still play it even today if it would not be such a bitch to install on a modern system.

You know what? I'm thinking of Sid Miers Railroads! NOT Railroad Tycoon. Railroad Tycoon was amazing. So was RT2. Railroads! was the one that sucked ass.
