Wasteland designer Liz Danforth joins Wasteland 2 team

WorstUsernameEver

But best title ever!
From Brian Fargo's twitter we learn that another member of the original Wasteland team has joined the Kickstarter-powered Wasteland 2 project, Liz Danforth, responsible for the Highpool map in the original game.
In other great news we have brought another original #wasteland designer aboard. Liz Danforth. The HiHighpool map was one of hers.

In related news, the project has already raised more than $600,000 in a little more than one day and seems well on track to actually reach its goal of $900,000. Crossed fingers for this one and a heartfelt good luck to Brian Fargo and the Wasteland 2 team.

This is getting better and better. Almost too good to be true...

Somebody pinch me.

From what I see on Wikipedia, mainly writing. But it doesn't matter much, especially in her line of work (actually the fact she didn't do much could turn out to be good and bring freshness and passion to the project). The best thing about it is that with each dollar pledged, it becomes easier to convince people to work on this project. That's awesome. Hopefully we will see other talented people joining in.

There are so many lame kickstarter projects, but this is the exception. I still hope kickstarter goes away forever, but only after Wasteland 2 is funded. :)

I've known Liz Danforth mainly from her art for Middle Earth Role Playing (MERP).

Yea, Fargo just corrected himself. Good that I wasn't reading it wrong for years... because i just thought so when reading the news.

You want a whole website to go away, all of its employees laid off because you think some of the projects are lame?

:?

Did Kickstarter burn down your sister and rape your church?

Even if i'm not fond of her illustrations (some are quite nice and imaginative though), she has other skills.
More important I like her backgroung : a good mix of pen and paper/video games experience both in the fantasy and science fiction genres.

Eh, nice, the old mob is gathering again. That's good.

My only concern for now is do they sill got that .thing. that has made Wasteland so unique. I'm becoming middle-aged wacko fast myself too, so I can feel in my bones that sometimes new blood is needed to keep juices flowing.

On a good side, however they have become "mature" I truly believe they can do a light-year better job of creating intoxicating world, story, characters and "things to do" then present, overhyped shallow-minded copycats that call themself "aaa developers".

I only hope they all are positively crazy and bold enough to try something that is not catered for 15-year old kids with teeth braces... God, I guess I do really hate our adolescent culture...

p.s. disclaimer: nothing against teeth braces. They are useful. Kids that wear them nowdays - not so much.

Glad to have another veteran in the mix.

I personally like her art. Though I can understand why some don't. It very much has the look and feel of the fantasy art that was done in the 70's and 80's for pen & paper (and c) RPGs...which of course it is.

Kickstarter projects have the potential to be great. It allows developers to make the kind of games that normally wouldn't thrive in this business and it allows fans a chance to revisit really niche genres. To me this is a win-win. I don't mind giving money away for a project that I want to see.

Do you think KickStarter would buy me a lovely microscope for surface mount device work? :>
