Weird Food!

Choro Ex

First time out of the vault
Are there any weird food in your country? Well, Indonesia got loads of them!

In Aceh, the war torn province with rebels led by some Swede adventurer, people use to made "Cannabis Soup." Literally, made Soup from Cannabis. Said little bit sleepy after ate a bowl

The Vietnamese got nuoc nam, we got our own versions! Called "Petis" made from fermented fish stock (boil fish, take the water, leave them to rot several days till you got some creamy black thing looks like grease). Our version is milder than Nuoc Nam and not too foul smelling.

There were local ingredient called Terasi Udang, look like a hard substance. Made from fermented Prawn stock, and use to made chilly sauce. Smells like weeks old socks.

The notorious Durian fruit. Evil smelling with thorny hard skins, and smells like soap. But for me, very delicious. using the skins as a bowl, then drink some water from it somehow removes the smells.

In central java, we ate bees. Some said it taste sweets.

Know some kind of insect always gathered near the lamp in the night? Yup, we ate that too! Made some kind of chips.

Ate a corn, and left the rest days. You got orange fungi grew on that. Here the fungi use to fermented Soy beans like those white fungi in Bean Curds. Local delicacy.

In north Sumatra regions, peoples ate dogs.

My dad once ate scorpions in chinese restaurant. Taste good he said.

I like frog legs. Fried or boiled!

I remember some Australian show that challenge peoples to ate Cow's tongue. THATS MY FAVORITE FOOD. I also loves cows innards, stomach, intestine, chickens butt, liver, and cows inner skins. Not often though, all of them contains high cholesterol, and if the meat came from Canada, Irish or Australian, I won't ate that. Too much dangerous chemical substances.

Well, i haven't taste all things above and some Im not looking forward to ate some of that!

The weirdest thing we have here is called Poutine. It's french fries (not liberty fries) with cheese curds and gravy.

Yummy.

...
But not anywhere near the country of the neighberhood of the ballpark of all the disgusting things you mentioned.

We Dutch are great, waste not want not, we say.

So we take all the good meat from pigs, cattle and chickens and turn them into beef, filet, or whatever.

We take the rest (entrails, brains, vital organs, reproductive organs), throw them in a grinder and make sausages out of them.

"Frikandel" is longish and hasn't stomped on the bits quite enough, so that the bits can be quite recognisable at times. And it has vegetables in it.

"Kroket" is shorter and crustier and makes sure all the bits are quite well-stomped (unless you hit the bladder, yech).

We Dutch are always fan of other people's food, though. Indonesian food is yummie.

Polish sausages are much better since we make them from fingernails.

And about strange food: I personally hate eggs. I just think they want to kill us all to take over the world. Hey, I'm not paranoid or something... look, pink egg, three o'clock! :D

Heh... I ate indonesian food the last time I was in the Netherlands.

Well in norway we have a little something called smalahove, it is a sheep head chopped into two halves and then the hair is burned of. Then there is lut fish wich is fish that has been tortured so much it still shakes when you eat it. Tastes disgusting too.

Klubb? are you talking about komle/kompe ?

mmmmh that good! made by potatoes, with salty meat and melted button on it..

Probably the name varies all over the country. I forgot the salty meat. I love it, even though i can feel like a clump in the stomach after you have eaten.

It is one of those treats that you either like or you don't like.

you can't beat england for using all of the pig ( oxcept the oink. )

we have sctratchings ( fried pig skin ), pigs feet, sausages ( made from avarything else ), and black pudding ( boiled and solidified pigs blood.. ), tripe, as well as all the usual cuts of meat

Well in America, there's this thing called a "PB&J" also known as a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. First off, it's two pieces of bread. One side is spread with a fine peanut paste while the other side is covered with a congealed strawberry jam. Now, hear me out here because this is the weird part. We actually *combine* both sides together! That's right, the jelly and the peanut butter gets smeared together. Zounds! Disgusting, huh?

Okay, so America, the land of burger and fries, doesn't really have any interesting food. But there's a Philipino restaurant that a frequent that serves ox tail stew. It's pretty tasty, albeit a little stringy, but the stew makes up for that.

(Someday, when you are ready, I will tell you of the great American heart-stopper, the Krispy Kreme donut).

There are some weird American foods. Crawdads, for example. They look like little lobsters, and you take the heads off and suck the stuff out. Tried it once, and realized it was too much work for the little amount of meat you get.

Crawdads aren't "American", are they? I thought it was French, as most eating-of-little-fishlike-creatures is.

Come to think of it, what foodstuff would you say is "American"?

It's Cajun, although it may also be popular in France.

What food is American? Well, there are likely some Native American foodstuffs that are kind of unique, but since America as we know it today is a combination of cultures from all over the world, it's difficult to point to anything as uniquely American.

Wee, Freak Food Feast!

In Panama, we are quite fond of eating most parts of any living thing, except people. We have the famous mondongo (cow's 3 stomachs (sp?) + intestines (take my word when I tell you that when people prepare this shit, you'll head for the hills on the double since you have to scrap the insides of the intestines to get the shit and grime off) chopped into small pieces, usually served with rice; probably Spanish in origin but their recipe is way more tasty than ours), sao (pork's hoove (sp?) served with hot pimentos (called aji chombo (nigger pimento--slang)), cucumber, lemon and onions; from the caribbean islands), bull's testicles (nope, not as aphrodisiac (sp?), served fried with rice, some people say they taste just like meatballs), soup of rooster hood (you know, the little red thing that roosters have on their head), soup of fish eyes, cow's brains (usually made into an omellette (sp?)), mollejas (a part of the chicken's stomach, the one that crushes seeds and the like), iguanas and their eggs (the meat from the lizard tastes just like chicken albeit a bit harder on the teeth, and the eggs have to be sundried first). These are the ones I remember from the top of my head, Bon appétit!

someone mentioned 'freedom fries' and i just wanted to let everyone know that we're officially changing the name again to 'Potatoes du cowards'. Got a nice ring to it, dont you think?

I don't see anyone mentionning Hagus. Altought i've never tasted it, just looking at it makes me not want to taste it.

I work as a buyer in a major hotel, so i see a lot of food everyday. There is that one fish that disguss me the most: the monkfish. It comes in skin off, the flesh is weird beige/blue in color. But the most disgusting part is that when you cook it on a grill, you can see all the little worms in the flesh get cooked first, before the flesh turns whitish from the cooking. So you know that you are eating worms along that smelly, disgusting fish.

The Chef that used to work here is now in the chinatown part of the city. He called me and told me that last week, he ate fried cobra, jellyfish soup and another digusting crap that i'm blocking out in my memory.

Ohhh.... Dutch food.
I always love the Kroket and that one we called "PERKEDEL", ate for dinner everyday (guess that Khairn). I also love the "Kattetong", "Nastar", and "Puffertjess", always made it at Ied day.
My Granny always made that. Well, he's 80 (not Eighteen okay!!!).

Well, Dutch and Indonesians got common food taste.

I heard in French you guys fed Pigs with Apples, slaughter it, and uses the stomach content as sauce (YUCK!!!).

Oh yeah theres one things called "GADUNG" a tubers like potatos. It's HIGHLY POISONOUS. You cut it, soak it in water and ash for 3 days, then dry it under the sun. Some times if you didn't soak much, you could die. One of my favourite chips, taste better than potato chips (heh...heh...), but i always pray before ate one.

BTW, anyone of you ever ate Escargot? You know, snails? I'm looking forward to ate one. Well, Zwitter's mum loves one of those.

I've tryed them just out of curiosoty and there not horrible or bad tasing. I don't see what the mayor problem is whith eating them. Maybe its just the initial idea of what you're eating. But anyways, if you like sea food then there quite nice!
