I just got thinking on how many great games that never got sequels for some reason or other, and thinking that this shouldnt be the case.Often, they had excellent storylines/background that could be expanded or could be improved to pure creamy goodness if some stuff were fixed or added in a sequel. But for some reason or other, they just never came to be.
.Fallout 2.Obvious why really.
.Freespace 2.So many things left unexplained. Why did the shivans blow the sun? What happened to the rebel commander? Why was he trying to contact the shivans? What the hell was that cruiser(if i recall correctly) doing in that nebula?Great gameplay, wonderful capital ships, fantastic story.
.Blood 2 : the chosen. The storyline is just fantastic.Simply fantastic........if only it had been expanded on.......pity the chosen were basically background material, all they did was warp in,chat a bit, warp out.
.Birthright.One of the best strategy games made. There were just so many options to be used.Fix a few major bugs, add a couple major features, voila, you got a great empire management strategy game combined with adventuring and battles.
.Command and conquer series. The storyline?Pretty damn good.So was the red alert ones. The problems come from infantry being in general useless, and hugely imbalanced units.Fix those problems, expand the storyline, explain a bit more on kane(what hte hell was he doing welcoming the ion blast?how did he survive?etc),and you got a keeper.
.Planescape : torment. This absolutely screams for a sequel. At least let us know what the nameless one is doing ATM and what the others are doing(grace, anna, morte, etc). There were so many loose ends left dangling that it pratically announced to the world that the devs were deliberately leaving stuff out for the sequel.And....it did not happen.
.System shock 2. The story could have been better on both ones.......definately.There was a dangling end for a sequel(like most games),so thats not a problem.Gameplay.....could use a bit of improvement, combat felt cliched, boring, unrealistc, etc. Most important?MORE HORROR.More scary stuff.More things in the storyline that make you really THINK and freak out. This one is guaranteed sales. If they dont screw it up.
.Wasteland. A much longer game is needed this time round.Maybe a re-make with a CRAPLOAD of stuff added in.Definately needs a sequel.
.Shadowrun.Again,another fantastic RPG that could use a sequel.Oh,not based on the original story, but definately on the universe.Christ,so many options.
.Deus ex.Okay,NOT deus ex 2.Deus ex 1 was fantastic, deus ex 2 was a joke.Too bad the storyline has been royally fuxx0red by deus ex 2......but maybe its not impossible to make a decent deus ex 3,that goes back to its action FPS-RPG roots, with a decent storyline.
