What games would you like to see sequels for,and why?

Question

First time out of the vault
I just got thinking on how many great games that never got sequels for some reason or other, and thinking that this shouldnt be the case.Often, they had excellent storylines/background that could be expanded or could be improved to pure creamy goodness if some stuff were fixed or added in a sequel. But for some reason or other, they just never came to be.

1.Fallout 2.Obvious why really.

2.Freespace 2.So many things left unexplained. Why did the shivans blow the sun? What happened to the rebel commander? Why was he trying to contact the shivans? What the hell was that cruiser(if i recall correctly) doing in that nebula?Great gameplay, wonderful capital ships, fantastic story.

3.Blood 2 : the chosen. The storyline is just fantastic.Simply fantastic........if only it had been expanded on.......pity the chosen were basically background material, all they did was warp in,chat a bit, warp out.

4.Birthright.One of the best strategy games made. There were just so many options to be used.Fix a few major bugs, add a couple major features, voila, you got a great empire management strategy game combined with adventuring and battles.

5.Command and conquer series. The storyline?Pretty damn good.So was the red alert ones. The problems come from infantry being in general useless, and hugely imbalanced units.Fix those problems, expand the storyline, explain a bit more on kane(what hte hell was he doing welcoming the ion blast?how did he survive?etc),and you got a keeper.

6.Planescape : torment. This absolutely screams for a sequel. At least let us know what the nameless one is doing ATM and what the others are doing(grace, anna, morte, etc). There were so many loose ends left dangling that it pratically announced to the world that the devs were deliberately leaving stuff out for the sequel.And....it did not happen.

7.System shock 2. The story could have been better on both ones.......definately.There was a dangling end for a sequel(like most games),so thats not a problem.Gameplay.....could use a bit of improvement, combat felt cliched, boring, unrealistc, etc. Most important?MORE HORROR.More scary stuff.More things in the storyline that make you really THINK and freak out. This one is guaranteed sales. If they dont screw it up.

8.Wasteland. A much longer game is needed this time round.Maybe a re-make with a CRAPLOAD of stuff added in.Definately needs a sequel.

9.Shadowrun.Again,another fantastic RPG that could use a sequel.Oh,not based on the original story, but definately on the universe.Christ,so many options.

10.Deus ex.Okay,NOT deus ex 2.Deus ex 1 was fantastic, deus ex 2 was a joke.Too bad the storyline has been royally fuxx0red by deus ex 2......but maybe its not impossible to make a decent deus ex 3,that goes back to its action FPS-RPG roots, with a decent storyline.

1. Deus Ex 1, i totally agree with you about this.

2. Nuclear Strike, an amazing game and one of my all time favorites.

3. Jet Set Radio (Jet Grind Radio to most), already has a sequel but failed to capture the style of the first game, adopting something much different.

4. Come on, we need another Monkey Island game!

5. Arcanum, as it has a rich, full world that i believe has many more storys to tell.

6. Kingsley's Adventure, you gota love that little guy :D

Thats about all i can think of for now. I would like to see another Mafia game, but i guess the story is complete. A prequel would work i guess, maybe it could follow the story of Paulie.

Sequels requested for the following games (ones not already mentioned earlier):

Vampire: Bloodlines

Baldur's Gate 2 (Beyond the expansion, Throne of Bhaal)

Tachyon: The Fringe (It was a fun game dammit, and it starred Bruce Campbell!)

Starcraft: Brood War (Best RTS ever)

More to come...

7.System shock 2.

There's a "spiritual" sequel coming called Bioshock. I think it has a few of the people who created SS2 working on it.

My list:

Vampire: Bloodlines. Such a great game, sucks there will never be another in the same vein. (lol vein)

Temple Of Elemental Evil. Best D&D combat ever - a new one using a better module, more dialogue and with less publisher censorship/interference would kick ass.

Wasteland. Supposedly there's one in the works, but I doubt it's going to come close to the original.

Planescape: Torment. Not because I want the storyline to continue as I think it ended pretty perfectly, but another game in this setting with the same quality of writing would be incredible.

Kid Icarus. For some reason it's the only old Nintendo game that they've never brought back to life, and I've never been able to figure out why. I'd love for them to eventually make another one.

Neuromancer. The world needs another good cyberpunk game, and I think that Gibson's world is as good a setting for it today as it was 20 years ago. A sequel to this done with today's technology would be awesome.

There are a few more but most of them have confirmed sequels coming out.

Edit: ANACHRONOX! Finish the story, god damn it.

In no perticular order what so ever

1) Starcraft: Broodwar

2) Deus Ex Original (I say drop Deus ex 2 like it didnt happen and redo the second one)

3) Devastation - In the end I rather enjoyed the game because despite some of the cliche parts and repetitiveness. I guess I'm a sucker for "cliff hanger" endings...

4) Homeworld 2

5) Fallout 2 (Should I even need to *Say* this? Its so desperately needed)

(On a side note tangent @ Question: I never found infantry that underpowered in Generals, rocket soldiers > tanks in alot of situations, though I do see where you're coming from...)

I want a sequel to Sentinel Worlds damn it, and not that shitty Hard Nova game.

Also a Tie Fighter sequel would kick ass. Tie Fighter is still one of my favorite games of all time, and a true sequel would be just great.

As already mentioned, Freespace 2 is just begging for a good follow up as well.

You do realize there is one already, right?

I disagree on Bloodlines needing a sequel - rather more along the lines of ToEE and telling a different story with the same engine (maybe with bugs fixed).

With Arcanum I'd rather see a prequel - set around the time when technology was beginning to take hold on the magical world.

I think a NWN-engined game based in Sigil could be extremely good. The original PS:T is a finished game - no need to follow on that exclsively.

This will sound stupid to some, but after playing IwD and IwD2 (both enjoyable if imperfect), I would really like to see another game in the old Infinity Engine with the 3rd Ed. ruleset. I know perfectly well it will never happen.

I'd like a sequel to Looking Glass' Terra Nova: Strike Force Centauri.. *sigh* :(

Also Shenmue 3 would be nice, instead of some trendy Shenmue Online BS.. Loved the first 2 games for the particular feel and atmosphere they had, even though most people would say they were rather slow-paced and occasionally boring.

Do we really? I liked the monkey island games and actually have all 4 of them, but by the 4th game, the premise just seemed tired.

I totally agree on that. I think that it could take place a few decades after the original though. I can picture a whole series that takes players through the years.

Arcanum: 1885
Arcanum 2: 1928 The menu theme music can start with the original's violin music and then suddenly break out into swingin' jazz.
Arcanum 3: 1957
Arcanum 4: 1974 For the main menu, I can see some Elvish guy leaning against a muscle car, smoking a cigarette, wearing jeans and a white wife-beater, with Jimmy Hendrix blaring on the car radio, the whole scene taking place on a parking lot on the top of a hill that overlooks inner-city Tarrant.
Arcanum 5: 1988
Arcanum 6: 1996
Arcanum 7: 2011

I'd like to see a sequel to this also, but I would want it to take place in the 1970's that deals with the original protagonist’s grandson, who is the son of his daughter.

Yea planescape torment story ended almost perfectly, but just too amny things were left unanswered IMHO.A sequel set within sigil, but not about the nameless one, etc, but containing characters from the first game(and answering some of the questions in the original, like what happened to them would be nice.....) would definately kick ass.

VTM : bloodlines needing a sequel?Hmm.....i played masquerade and while the story was okay, the gameplay sucked to high heaven.Im surprised bloodlines even came out.My current comp cant run it,but i hear its pretty good.Ive always been fascinated with the white wolf universe, and i thought hte "ghost" one was particularly good, but i understand that was discontinued and the storyline ended in a book(alas i never found it).I wouldnt mind if it got a sequel.

Well the BG series ended, storyline was....eh.......okay.....not particularly spectacular(halfway through 1 you find out 90% of the storyline and II pretty much had nothing to do with bhaal or you, just that imoen gets kidnapped and you want revenge),and pretty much 95% of the throne of bhaal expansion storyline is made known to you in the first parts of the game, with the last 5% being repeatedly hinted to you already and if you are used to such twists, you would have guessed it.

But i wouldnt say no to another RPG set in faerun, but one with less emphasis on how OMGWTFPWN you are.Maybe you are a mercenary,a merchant's guard,etc.....something more "normal".And definately a better thought out storyline this time.

IMHO,i simply couldnt stand icewind dale.Dungeon crawling is boring as hell and the storyline is pretty much.....eh......non-existent really......most times i played halfway through the yuan ti dungeon and ended it right there out of sheer frustration of repeatedly going through levels and levels of dungeons just hacking and slashing. Its even more boring than diablo 2,and thats saying something.

  :wtf: :seriouslyno:

That's like saying:
Fallout 3: Taking place in the year 5623 aboard a space station. The theme music can start with the original music from Fallout 1 and then suddenly break into a loud pumping techno beat. They should definitely put androids in the game. Yeah, cool androids wielding light sabers.
Fallout 4: The date is 8674. The Vaultdweller's DNA, which was found by an alien race, is used to rebuild him in all his glory. His main quest takes him to Titan, one of Saturn's moons. Here he meets the lizard people who are buidling silicium based vaults to save their species from the deadly radiation of a comet that is closing in on them.
Fallout 5: Let's make this one a prequel, set in the year 0. The Romans have invented a nuclear device which they call "The Martian Turbine Of Doom". You play as Jesus and you can only wear a leather thong. Wicked.
Fallout 6: The date is 9866. There's panic in the streets of New Reno. Harold - not much more than a pair of bones held together by leather straps and the roots of a fruit tree - has taken over the place with the help of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and is buidling an empire based on porn and drugs. It's up to you to fight the old bastard and to save the galaxy at the same time! Phew!
Fallout 7: I can already hear the theme music: Enya!

Hm...

Just leave Arcanum alone. I don't ever want to see a sequel to it, or a prequel for that matter. Arcanum is a true work of beauty. Now that Troika is dead, any developer trying to make Arcanum 2 would fuck it up. I'm sure they would.

Ohh yeah i forgot about that. Im not to excited about this Shenmue online BS anyway. I want to find out what happened to Shenhua's Father and see what Ren is up to!

I want to see Pirates of Dark Water continued 8) . Either the show or the game, but dammit, it wasn't finished!

Arcanum was,as i understand it,woefully unbalanced and the dungeon crawls were sorta like some of the worse dungeons in icewind dale.

Arcanum was great once you tweaked the weapon balance issues. My only real complaint with it was the severe lack of grammatical editing in the dialogue. I mean, Jesus Christ, is it THAT hard to use your/you're and their/there/they're correctly?
