Where do you buy games online (if not Steam)

What the title says - I wanted to buy some new-ish games, but sometimes they're quite expensive on Steam (unless you get them on a special discount day, which I usually miss).

I bought some old games on Good Old Games and that was sweet, but I was wondering - where do you guys buy more recent games?

I'm interested in downloadable versions, not online stores that send you games on discs, BTW.

Main reason is that I don't wanna spend money with my credit card on a site that might not be good and/or provide shitty service for their games.

Thanks Reconite, I knew about D2D, just never used them. Some games look a little cheaper than Steam, too. Do they have that '(re)download any time' thing like Steam?

Nowhere else than Steam or GoG. If possible, I don't buy games online, because of the box and so on.

I've bought a few games at GamersGate. I like the fact that it's browser-based and doesn't install any separate client applications. Other than that, it seems to be pretty much the same deal as Steam.

GamersGate, Direct2Drive, Steam and GoG are pretty much my online places, although I've only used Direc2Drive once.

I don't use it, actually. So I wouldn't know. They probably do though.

I only made a D2D account to claim a Mafia 1 copy when it was on free. It's bound to my account on it now. :)

steam, GOG, direct2drive

steam: mostly only for my source games or games that require/use steam such as sup com 2

GOG: mostly for the fallouts and to support them because its drm free games

direct2drive: sup com 1 expansion, and stargate resistance

Same here, but we use the first 3 to provide review copies which is why I'm on em anyway.

GamersGate has Pathologic and beats Steam in that. The lack of installed client is nice, it's something none of the others (except GOG) do.

I never liked Direct2Drive because it seems so...NA-focused. Might've changed over the years. It's the second-biggest after Steam in DD sales, if that's of interest.

Impulse is a nice start-up. I've only used it once or twice (for Demigod I think). It uses the more logical "actual conversion rate" for dollars and Euros rather than Steam's "one dollar is one euro" logic. It's got a client less hefty than Steam, but same principle.

Steam and GoG. But i usually buy old/classic titles because sometimes they aren't available in the stores anymore

I had always been against downloading games. Sure it saves some money since they offer games cheaper and you don't have to pay to travel to a store, but I can't stand not having a physical copy of the game.

Then I realized that many old classics which were around before I discovered gaming could be bought through such services. There are many games I've always wanted, but thought would never get re-released or find me lucky enough to discover in the back of a bargain bin.

So far I've only used one service Good Old Games. I only bought one game "Duke Nukem 3D", but now that I know the service works so well I will buy more games from them in the future. I can't wait for them to get a hold of more old games classic titles or obscure ones.

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller
