Why is Legion currency worth so much?

Their econ is actually pretty good iirc and they are in a stable position as well, but yeah, even barring all that the coins being made from precious metals would keep the value up in Fallout's setting as opposed to paper money like NCR. Not many people will like IOU's in the apocalypse as opposed to weighty gold coinage that clinks together nicely.
 
It's solid gold and silver, or close to it. It may be Legion, but it's still AU. And the NCR did try to back its currency with gold until the BOS destroyed it somehow, so people are knowable of a gold standard, then the NCR switched to a water standard.
